“When He Was Young” 32x58”
This one literally took years to finish. Dreamed up by a long time friend of mine, it’s an image of Christ as a young man, connecting with an elderly man, full of wisdom and stories. The others have no understanding of the quietly momentous thing that is happening…the boy is becoming the Christ.

Solitude Frozen in Time, 30x40
It’s beautiful here in Utah. A fresh snow blanket covers the earth and the sun livens the landscape with a million diamonds.
Wherever you’re at, I hope you enjoy the beauty around you. You can find beauty anywhere, you just gotta look for it.

Just one of the marvelous paintings by Simon Winegar heading our way that shows off the beautiful and peaceful rural tonalist landscape that this artist does so well. Simon's intention includes painting to provide collectors with a view of the world that runs counter to the noise of daily life.

A little study, this 12x16 plays with the interchange when strong direct light is interrupted by a tree mass. Always a challenging thing to paint believably, partly because it’s painful to look at because you’re essentially starting into the sun…that really changes your perspective and ability to discern correct colors and values.

I recently attended the grand opening of the Illume West Gallery in Phillipsburg Montana. It was nothing less than incredible! The land. The people. The artwork. The gallery space. I'm so happy to be associated with such wonderfully deep people, such positive inspirations and the best gallery people in the business! Thanks Jane for putting it all together! Mark for oopening up your home! The Guthrie's for making it all look right! All the Cowboys for posing! And all the artists for just being artists!

Here is a study done on location...I'll be doing a bunch of work showcasing this awesome place in Montana, one of which will be up for auction with Illume West! I'll keep you posted!!!

Pioneer Day!

Today is pioneer day in Utah, it's the commemoration of the founding of this great state! (Founders day.)

This is a throwback painting to 2005, during the commemoration of the Willie and Martin Handcart disaster. These two companies were groups of Mormon pioneers that underwent extremely difficult hardships to travel to a place of relative safety so they could practice their religion in peace.

Regardless of your religious affiliations, it's a day to remember the sacrifices and dedication of normal people, not of governments and business and generals and presidents, but of the people who believed in goodness and hope for a better day...that's what Pioneer Day is about to me.

Today celebrates the human spirit.

Throwback to 2005, an historic piece commemorating the pioneer crossing of the Atlantic from Liverpool. Many of the people aboard on this trip met with tragedy later on while crossing the plains.

The Thornton, Willie and Martin handcart companies. 36x36, (sold)

"BIllowy" 36x48, oil on canvas

so pretty and full
the cotton is soft

warning however,
there's lies in that loft

it can't always be spring
It can't always be magic

life's not always happy
sometimes there's tragic

but beauty also

"Patriotic Pastures"

"Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things that a man needs to believe in the most: that people are basically good; that honor, courage, and virtue mean everything; that power and money, money and power mean nothing; that good always triumphs over evil; and I want you to remember this, that love, true love, never dies. You remember that, Boy. You remember that. No matter if they're true or not, a man should believe in those things because those are the things worth believing in.". -Hub McCann

Democracy. America. Anything that has any chance of being good...They work when we believe they do. They fail when our hearts fail.

I choose to believe in America, because it's an idea worth believing in...regardless of our differences.

Still workin' it with a broken foot! I think one of the greatest lessons we can learn in life is this: you can't always choose what happens to you, but you can choose how you're going to react to it...so I'm making lemonade!

These two are off to the grand opening of Illume Gallery in Montana!!!

Can't wait! Jane, gallerist extraordinaire, always makes things great!
