Our little Nellie, who was found on the side of the road in a drainage ditch, won big time when she found her forever family! Nellie’s favorite things are walks on the beach, snuggling, chasing her fur siblings, and watching football with her parents. She has already been on several adventures and has met her grandparents and extended family. So thankful for our wonderful adopters!!

Little Miss Nellie had a big day so she put herself to bed early! We found an amazing foster family for her. She has been busy making friends with their current dog and has been exploring their yard.

Took little Nellie to the vet today. She had a great visit. She is 20 lbs. and around 4 months old. She loved the vet tech and rewarded her with lots of kisses and almost fell asleep with her head on the vet tech’s shoulder. She got her first vaccinations. She is doing great with going potty outside and is a big fan of bully sticks.

Still looking for a foster family for this little one! Please send us a pm if you are interested! We are located in Salisbury, NC.

Seeking foster family for this sweet girl, currently located in Salisbury, NC. She is probably 4-5 months old. Super snuggly and sweet. She is potty trained already and knows “sit”. She doesn’t stay still unless she is napping (like any other puppy) and we are working on some puppy manners like jumping. My Rescue partners and I had to step back from Rescue a few years ago because we all had so much going on that we couldn’t give it the energy needed. I do not want to take her to shelter but I may have to if we can’t find a foster. I stopped yesterday when I saw her scurry out of the road and down into a ditch. I couldn’t leave her there to get hit by a car.

If you are interested in being a foster family, please send a pm. All vet bills will be paid by the Rescue.

Send up some positive thoughts for Kingsley (pup on the right). We are currently at CEVC. He is having a CHF episode & I am not sure what the outcome will be.

If you feel led to make a donation to his emergency vet visit we would great appreciate it!

Update to come.

04/08/2023

Friends, meet Kingsley! This 7 year old YorkiePoo was surrendered at a local animal hospital. He has a Grade 5 heart murmur with a collapsing trachea and severe dental disease, but no one told him that! He is the sweetest boy with a snuggly personality and a heart full of love. Kingsley is in need of some significant medical care, with expensive monthly heart meds. Tracey, our resident hospice foster, has agreed to foster him while we see if we can get this guy out of CHF and stable. His Dr. feels he may respond well to starting heart meds. The leftover funds from Trooper/Tony will be invested into King Kingsley. 👑 We will keep you posted on this little man and his medical journey. ❤️🐶

There are angels in our community who selflessly help those in need without expecting anything in return. Jenn Sciortino is one of those angels who frequently grooms matted dogs at the Rowan County Animal Shelter for no charge to them.

Her kitty, Freya, went in for a spay. She noticed she wasn’t feeling well in the days after. She went back to vet to be given a diagnosis of pneumonia. Freya has been hospitalized for several days w/ the initial outcome not being promising. The vet was cautiously optimistic and thankfully Miss Freya made a turn around! She is able to come home today. 🙌 💕 🐈‍⬛
Jenn needs a helping hand from the community she so often gives back to. The Halfway House Animal Rescue decided we’d donate $250 towards her large vet bill. Trooper Tony approved. 🐶 ✅
If you’d also like to make a donation towards Freya’s vet bill please call Salisbury Animal Hospital 📞 704-637-0227. The acccount ( #53894)
is under Freya. Cards are accepted over the phone.

Thank you all for the continued support!

Update #8 The Halfway House Animal Rescue

7/29

I want to preface by saying THANK YOU to everyone who donated allowing Trooper to get off the streets to the vet. I am writing all of this with a heavy heart. Today his bloodwork came back with some improvements but also held steady in others which indicates cancer in his body. In a turn of events I don’t think anyone would have anticipated Troopers owners also came forward. Troopers name is actually Tony. His family has been looking for him for several days. He went missing 1 day prior to me picking him up, from his electric fence. They don’t live far from where he was found. Trooper Tony as I’ll refer to him going forward was given a cancer diagnosis last November. At that time he was in a much better state, his family opted to see how things would progress for him. His extensive vet record at another animal hospital was confirmed so I have no reason to doubt them. Trooper Tony is hospice. His days are limited. Our vet discussed with his owners to take him home & enjoy what time remains with him but prepare for the day we all dread as pet owners. To show their appreciation of our care for Trooper Tony they made a donation towards his vetting expenses while hospitalized. Myself & the Halfway House Animal Rescue assumed financial responsibility for Trooper the moment I entered the vet with him. We do not regret that in any capacity. Given the choice I’d act in the same manner for any other dog in his condition. He is resting. He was happy to see his owners. He will live out his final days in the only home he has known for the last 12 years with people he loves. I ask that any comments be respectful towards his owners no matter the opinion on the situation.
I cannot tell you how genuinely grateful I am to every person who donated without hesitation. To those who couldn’t donate but shared or offered a kind word, I also appreciate you.
If you wish for your donation to be returned please let me know. Those who allow the donations to stay with The Halfway House I can assure you we will use your funds to help other dogs in Rowan County through various avenues including helping with community spay/neuters, helping pets stay with families who may not be able to afford dog/cat food and other health needs.
Trooper Tony would also thank you if he had thumbs. We will end on a "Woof Woof" instead. 🐾

The Halfway House Animal Rescue needs your help. 🆘🆘

We have over $6,000 of debt on Care Credit that we are paying over $100 in interest in ever single month. We have several “lifers” that incur expenses like food, medicine, and veterinary bills monthly- dogs who will never be adoptable. We have a few donors who have pledged $100 monthly that have kept us going with our current bills, but we are still struggling. Would you be willing to help us pay off this debt? Every little bit counts and can help dig us out of this hole. 🐕🐈

If you can help, our PayPal is [email protected]

Our sweet Lego has been adopted 🥰

From Lego’s foster mom:

Sometimes, the most special fosters come into your life when you least expect it. They teach you things about life that you never knew you needed to know. They show you what you are capable of handling, and how strong you are as a person.

You bring them back from the injured, terrified, and traumatized state that they are in, and teach them about love and trust. Little by little, you watch them blossom and begin to thrive. You form a close bond, and for a moment, you forget that it isn’t permanent.

And then, one day, an adopter comes along that promises to offer them the world. Quickly, paperwork is signed and plans are put into place to facilitate the adoption. You make sure the new family is aware of their story, their likes, dislikes, and favorites foods. And you hand over another piece of your heart knowing that you are making the best, most loving decision for them.

This adoption is proof that special needs animals are , and have the ability to be ! There are adopters out there that aren’t afraid of the special care that is required, and if you look hard enough, you will find them.

Have a happy life Lego girl! The last seventy one days with you have been filled with so much love and laughter. You are alive because I said yes, and I will forever be thankful for having the chance to love you. You have absolutely hit the jackpot of furrever homes! Keep on scootin’ and zoomin’ sweet girl, and always keep that wonder in your eyes. This is just the beginning of your new adventures.

And to all of our followers, thank you for taking this journey with us, and never forget that you are all 💗
