DEP ART is multifunctional, at times taking on the role of exhibition, residency, studio, gallery, a Formerly known as The Dept.
of Signs and Symbols, DEP ART first began as an ephemeral project space, temporarily transforming a vacant artist studio into an exhibition and artist residency venue. Following the residency model, it provided artists a haven to create their work on site. The period of concentration offered a fully immersive experience leading to the production of visionary, and experimental work. The exhibitions
presented were site-specific, as each artist was encouraged to incorporate the space within their project, either as an intervention or extension, and all the work was made in situ. DEP ART has departed from its relational, site-specific interconnection to space, and is now a living nomadic curatorial project. DEP ART is a creative collective, a collaborative expression of innovative experimentation and manifestation. Its curatorial mission is to serve and nourish emerging artists, foster and support curatorial voices, to discourage the ordinary and to incite the unexpected. Focused on interaction and collaboration, the project allows for critical exposure for the artists and curators. Through this crossing of art and life, a constellation of people, ideas, backgrounds, aspirations and intentions form. DEP ART is multifunctional, at times taking on the role of exhibition, residency, studio, gallery, and meeting place.
