"Ja! Ich habe ein Problem! Mit dieser Mini-CD! Mit diesem oft kriechendem, meist grandios stampfendem Stück Death Metal mit eingesprengselten Tech-Tödlichkeiten.
Die Songtitel "Schizophrenic", "Infected" und "Slow Death" beschreiben die knackig produzierte Musik recht treffend - wer also, wie ich, sehr gerne die Stimme in Kellerhöhe in den Ohren hat, die morschen Knochen und Bänder bisweilen nicht in wahnwitziger Geschwindigkeit beanspruchen muss und auch noch lieber den Underground im Haus hat, der hat....DAS Problem! Defective – Irreversible - Only Depravity remains

Berlin 2009, eine Gruppe junger Menschen macht sich auf, ein bischen Deathmetal in die Bevölkerung zu bringen, die Rede ist von Defective.
2012 pausierte man dann geschlagene acht Jahre bis man dann 2020 zurück kehrte, und 2022 mit Irreversible dann die erste EP auf den Markt brachte.
Diese habe ich Dank Records hier vorliegen, und ich muss sagen ich bin gespannt.
Die Platte hat 3 Songs die nach Kapiteln aufgeteilt sind, man beginnt allerdings mit Kapitel 3 und Endet mit Kapitel 1.
Letztendlich ist das was Defective abliefern klassischer Deathmetal, fieses Growls, dröhnender Bass, fette Gitarren und treibende Drums.
Ich war etwas verwirrt als ich die Anordnung der Kapitel gesehen habe, aber das soll uns ja jetzt nicht weiter stören.
Sänger und Bassist Co**se Ripper liefert ordentlich ab, ich hatte Teils sogar ein paar grindige Eindrücke, aber das mag täuschen.
Er weiss zumindest mit seiner Stimme umzugehen.
Musikalisch gibt’s auch eine ordentliche Abreibung.
Seien es die Gitarren von Tobias und Gerald oder die Drums von Florian, man erkennt definitiv aus welchem Genre sie kommen, und das setzen sie auch gut um.
Es gibt ein paar schöne Slow Down Momente, es gibt aber auch Geknüppel vom feinsten.
Leider gibt es an ein Paar stellen Momente in denen ich mir nicht sicher bin was ich sagen soll, da wirkt es mir ein wenig unkoordiniert, was leider ein paar Abzüge in der B Note bringt.
Insgesamt ist Irreversible eine solide EP, coole Ansätze vor allem im dritten Song wo man einen Professor, so wie eine Person mit multiplen Persönlichkeiten vertont hat, inkl. Gastbeitrag von Evan Daniele (A**l Exorcism , Dead and Dripping uvm)
Insgesamt haben wir 11 Minuten bei 3 Songs und ich würde sagen 6 von 10.

Logo Artwork:
For better recognition, we wanted to have a logo artwork that immediately catches the eye and is memorable. Like Suffocation's S-artwork, for example. Since there was no real release in the first phase of Defective, we only really see the start of the band now with the reforming and the release of the 3 songs of the EP "IRREVERSIBLE: OnlyDepravityRemains". Accordingly, Defective is now starting with the number 3 and this should be anchored in the logo artwork. So the triangle with the 3 impaled skulls was born. The 3 corners and the skulls stand for the 3 songs of the debut EP. Below you can see the “D” from the “Defective” logo lettering. This artwork logo will also be used for the band in the future and will indicate the start via the EP.

Chapter 3: Slow Death:
This includes the blue faces of the artworks. In this song, the zombie virus has already broke out of the laboratory and is overrunning humanity. The song tells the story of a zombie attack on a human. The musical orientation should represent both panic, pain, resignation and transformation.

Chapter 2: Infected:
In this song, the zombie virus / first zombie from the professor's secret basement lab makes its way into the official lab area. There, the other professors know nothing about the experiments in the basement and are surprised by the zombie. We have chosen to use a fretless bass and a sluggish start to acoustically represent the slurping walk of zombies. The song then speeds up as staff panics and the first others are infected. The reddish faces correspond to this song in the artwork.

Chapter 1: Schizophrenic:
This is where all the action starts. A professor tries to develop a cure for his terminally ill wife in a secret basement laboratory under the actual laboratory. Work, lack of sleep, and the painful thought of losing his wife if he doesn't find a cure lead to schizophrenia. The resulting further personalities of the professor slowly take control and change the plan from finding a cure to finding a means that brings the dead back to life and so everything begins to turn dramatically. For this song we were able to get Evan Daniele from the New Jersey based old school brutal death one man formation "Dead And Dripping" as guest vocalist. Co**se Ripper takes on the professor's personality in this song and Evan takes on the schizophrenic alternations. To better represent the chaos and the echoing of the voices in the head of the professor, Co**se Ripper doubled Evan's parts in a higher pitch. Which, in combination with the song structure, should create a schizophrenic back and forth of thoughts. The song is a homage to the film "The Re-Animator", which can also be seen in the associated artwork parts.

You asked for so here we are. Let's talk about the thoughts to our EP, about the connections between music, story and artworks.

Our EP called "IRREVERSIBLE: Only Depravity Remains" is a concept and is telling a story. However, like the film "Irreversible" by Gaspar Noé, it is told backwards. In other words: The first song "Chapter 3: Slow Death" is the end of the story and the last song "Chapter 1: Schizophrenic" is the beginning or the event that leads to the storyline. The artwork, starting at the top at 12 o'clock, also runs backwards when viewed clockwise, reflecting the individual chapters of the EP. The artwork printed on the CD also reflects a chapter of the EP in each of the three faces. These faces can also be found in the booklet together with the lyrics. There the respective face can be seen matching the lyrics of the song to which it belongs. The color design of the individual faces of the artwork is carried through to the other artwork parts for the CD and booklet. So you can always see exactly which face belongs to which song. The adaptation of the title to the film bridges the reverse playing of the EP, just like the same named film (except the film is titled in French spelling). But the story of the EP has nothing to do with the story in the film and stands for itself. The only thing that is the same is the way it is played and the fact that the events shown there are irreversible and are changeing everything negatively and forever.

"So, ich versuche mich jetzt kurz und bündig zu halten, weil ich gerne sehr ausführlich schreibe wenn ich euphorisch bin und DEFECTIVE haben diese Euphorie endlich mal wieder ausgelöst.

Klar es ist eine EP und EP's sind bekanntlich dazu gedacht zu experimentieren und eventuelle Stilausrichtungen auszuprobieren, wobei dieser glitzernde Silberling alles andere als ein Experiment ist.

Kurzum, es trifft voll in die Fresse mit richtig schönem oldschool-like Todesblei.
Definitiv ein "Schmankerl" für Fans von Vomitory und Co.

Ich hab wirklich nur eine Kleinigkeit auszusetzen:
Den Hintergrund, wie und warum dieses kleine Meisterwerk entstanden ist und warum genau dieses Konzept gewählt wurde, erfährt man leider nur mit Recherche. Vielleicht kommt dieses feine, kleine, fressbrettschlagende Stück Death Metal ja mal in einer limited Edition daher, mit kleinem Booklet, welches die Detailverliebtheit der Band erklärt. "So, I'll try to keep it short and sweet now because I like to write in great detail when I'm euphoric and DEFECTIVE have finally triggered that euphoria again.

It's an EP, of course, and EP's are known to be intended for experimenting and trying out possible styles, whereby this glittering disc is anything but an experiment.

In short, it hits you right in the face with really nice old school like death metal.
Definitely a "delicacy" for fans of Vomitory and co.

I really only have one small thing to complain about:
Unfortunately, the background of how and why this little masterpiece was created and why exactly this concept was chosen can only be found with research. Maybe this fine, small, pounding piece of Death Metal will come in a limited edition, with a small booklet, which explains the band's love of detail. Because that's exactly what blew me away: The attention to detail, the story about it and behind it.
