Our Story
The photo at the top of my page is of me when I was in 2nd grade. That was the year I broke my arm. That's about the time that I started "wishing"....wishing for things I wanted to happen. One wish I made was to become a teacher.
In college, I followed this dream and studied Deaf Education. I took classes focused on Early Childhood as well that led to my first teaching position.
I taught preschool students who had been identified as needing special education services. That was definitely the start of my adventure. I worked with kids with developmental delays, speech delays, hearing impairments physical limitations, ADD, ADHD, Prader-Willi syndrom, fetal alcohol syndrome, and so many more I never learned about in college. One student who could raise her eyebrows and move her thumb helped me learn all about the Dynavox! She was amazing. As the students learned from me...I learned from them as well.
Year 20 of teaching started a new adventure as I moved to teaching 2nd grade. (My daughter said it was my mid-life crisis...but it was always in my plan to move positions and keep challenging myself.)
Following the year teaching 2nd grade, I looped down to 1st grade and then stayed with that group of students as they moved to 2nd grade. Then back down to 1st again. Up to 2nd. You get the idea, right?
Along year 7 or so, I got the opportunity to move to my dream job....RtI Reading Specialist working with Tier 2 and Tier 3 K-2 students. (I think I forgot to mention that I also earned my Masters degree in Reading and had two children...not just my daughter, along the way.) I moved to my new position on day 11 of the school year....oh, boy, was that an event (but again, that is another story).
I have always been creative....ok, my mom used the word "messy" but that's another story too. As a preschool teacher meeting the needs of my students, I had to create many materials to use in the classroom. I continued to do that while teaching 1st and 2nd and now even as a Reading Specialist. Teacher friends encouraged me to check out TeachersPayTeachers and open my own store one year.
So as my daughter started filling out college applications, I opened my store....and the rest is history.
Go to my store. Some of my resources might help you meet the needs of your students. I create products that I wished for. Maybe you have wished for them as well.
