“Being awarded the Van Lier Fellowship from MOVE|NYC|’s founders made it possible for me to attend the 2024 Boston Ballet Summer Program. This fellowship made Boston Ballet much more accessible for my family, covering nearly all the expenses needed to take part in this amazing experience! During my time at Boston Ballet, I learned from so many talented and wonderful artists who poured all their knowledge of dance into me, helped enhance my technique, and pushed my artistry to the next level. I found myself in a very safe and healthy environment, surrounded by peers and teachers that encouraged and helped me in my areas for growth, allowing me to feel improvement every single day. Alumni Spotlight on ‘s newest additons!!!! OG & Carlos Franquiz (Associate Artist) 💫💫!!!! We are SO PROUD OF YOU BOTH!!!

Power house Olivia Wang, from Queens New York, was part of MOVE|NYC|’s inaugural class and graduated in 2019 from the Young Professionals Program. Olivia recently participated as a dancer in our inaugural SWEATLab Choreographic Incubator at .nyc in 2023.

Carlos Franquiz, hailing from Brooklyn New York, is utterly captivating in his sleek and articulate movement quality, and also graduated in the Class of 2019. Carlos, also a gifted creator, was commissioned by MOVE|NYC| in 2022 to create a new work on our Pre-YPP dancers.

Both Olivia and Carlos are recent graduates of SUNY Conservatory and joined A.I.M by Kyle Abraham in 2024! We love watching our alumni making their mark on the field!

A.I.M by Kyle Abraham, hailed as an exceptional contemporary dance company by The New York Times, delivers multifaceted performances and global educational workshops. Under the innovative direction of , A.I.M’s work is deeply rooted in Black culture, weaving a rich tapestry of Black and Q***r narratives in its works. Described as a “post-modern gumbo” of movement exploration by Abraham, A.I.M stands out for its unique perspective and approach to dance. A.I.M commissions new works and performs existing works by outside choreographers, such as Trisha Brown, Bebe Miller, Andrea Miller, and A.I.M alums Rena Butler, Keerati Jinakunwiphat, and Maleek Washington!!!

Did you know each Young Professional is paired with a Peer Mentor for monthly 1 on 1 sessions. Peer Mentors are recent alumni of the YPP who currently attend prestigious colleges around the nation and help support the current YP’s through their HS & training process!!!! At , the guidance goes far beyond the studio with Peer & Professional Mentorship! Each YP becomes part of a village of support, helping them move closer to their dreams and aspirations !!!

2nd Year Mentor (3rd Year ) is currently a peer mentor for (Senior YP, National YoungArts Winner, and International Contemporary Ensemble!)

I started last year as a peer mentor with this program, which was an incredibly humbling and inspiring experience. I was once in these dancers shoes not too long ago, so being on the opposite end of the spectrum was really eye-opening. I was able to bring my life adventures and realizations to the table as a way to engage in conversations circling around personal, artistic, and emotional matters.

I look forward to continue making connections with young dancers, while serving as a role model and an outlet for guidance and support. I have watched the growth of my previous mentees over the course of a year and I am excited to meet new faces and go on this beautiful journey with them as they learn and blossom. - Polina Mankova

The Pre-YPP is a TUITION-FREE Mentorship & High School Prep Program for New York City’s young pre-professional dancers who demonstrate potential for a career in dance. This program prepares each participant for a successful high school career.

“In my High School aplication process MOVE|NYC| has helped me a tremendous amount. I had scheduled meetings with Nigel Campbell that helped my family define our vision for High School; pinpointing which schools will benifit me towards possibly a professional career. MOVE also provided me with my solo for high school auditions and guided me with tips and corrections that pushed and helped me exceed my level of dance; even to the extent of helping in the recording of the final submission video. They supported and assisted me with a smooth process of audition and applying for various High Schools. I am beyond grateful for the counseling they offered me to better my chances at my top choice High Schools.”

WHAT IS THE YOUNG PROFESSIONALS PROGRAM?

The cornerstone of MOVE|NYC| is its TUITION-FREE, Young Professionals Program. The Young Professionals Program is a year round Mentorship & College/Conservatory Prep Program for New York City teenagers, ages 13 - 18, who demonstrate exceptional potential for a career in dance. The Young Professionals Program identifies talent at every stage of technical development, from beginner to advanced, and provides critical access to opportunities for mentorship and training, which prepares each young dancer for admission to collegiate conservatory programs post high school.

The MOVE|NYC| Young Professionals Program has helped me enhance my technical ability and find my voice as an artist. I have been embraced by such a welcoming and kind community, that is constantly pushing and challenging me to be the best version of myself. I am encouraged to always go deeper, as well as broaden my horizon. The MOVE|NYC| Young Professionals Program has given me a huge head start in my career as a dancer and provided me with knowledge that I will take with me for my whole career. MOVE|NYC| introduced me to a variety of styles that I did not have previous exposure to. Every day I spend training in the Young Professionals Program, I come out feeling stronger, both mentally and physically, and have felt a huge improvement in my technique.
