The award was established in 1996 to honor Olympic and World champion Dave Schultz, whose career was cut short when he was murdered in January 1996. He was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Member in 1997 and as a member of the United World Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2016.

First presented in 2014, the award is named for Tricia Saunders, a four-time World Champion and women’s wrestling pioneer.
Tricia was the first woman to be inducted as a Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2006 and was inducted into the United World Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2011.

Now that the 2024 State High School Championships have come to a conclusion, it’s time to turn our attention to the Meet of Champions on March 9th at the University of the Ozarks!
This is how you qualify for the National Team! We offer dual teams that travel to places like Tulsa, Pennsylvania, Indiana and individual tournaments like Fargo Nationals. We want you to be apart of our teams! Come qualify April 13, 2024 at Har-Ber high School, 8u through graduating high school seniors.

We received several nominees for the Dave Schultz and Tricia Saunders awards. The board voted Presley Givens and Justin Crutchmer to move forward as our state nominees for each award. Their names have been submitted to the National Hall of Fame board in Oklahoma along with each other state’s nominees. We wish them the best of luck in the regional and national selections.
The inductee for this year, for Lifetime Service to Wrestling, is Ed Viera. The Dave Shultz nominees this year were John Marpa, Will Williams, Grant Lawson, Ethyn Gibson, Grant Lawson, and Justin Crutchmer. The Tricia Saunders nominees were Vivi Edwards, Roselyn Amaya, and Presley Givens.
