Homeschool Mentoring with Chana Rus
The world can be dark but with the sharing of ideas & brave action- Light aluminates...
"For three decades, I’ve spent my days in the company of the Torah sages teachings, surrounded by mothers from all walks of life, and classic books, along with children, lots of children, mine and other people's. In a wholesome, full of real-life skills, artistic, hands on, imaginative, literature based, life learning environment. I am blessed every day to see the light in children's eyes as they

Winter…
"The winter solstice time is no longer celebrated as it once was, with the understanding that this is a period of descent and rest, of going within our homes, within ourselves, and taking in all that we have been through, all that has passed in this full year which is coming to a close... like nature and the animal kingdom around us, this time of hibernation is so necessary for our tired limbs, our burdened minds...the natural tug to go inwards as nearly all creatures are doing is strong and the weather so bitter that people are left feeling that winter is hard because, for those of us without burning fires and big festive families, it can be lonely and isolating. Whereas winter is kind, it points us in its quiet, soft way towards our inner self, this annual time of peace and reflection, embracing the darkness and forgiving, accepting, and loving embracing goodbye the past year.
Winter takes away the distractions, the buzz, and presents us with the perfect time to rest and withdraw into a womb-like love, bringing fire & light to our hearth.. and then, just around the corner the new year will begin again, and like a seed planted deep in the earth, we will all rise with renewed energy once again to dance in the sunlight
Life is a gift💗"

Yes! I’ve worked with every one of these kinds of mother’s! 🌝
But of course!
💛 such a blessing…
Mom, 38, dies of ovarian cancer—how her dying wish wiped millions in debt "She was a truly hilarious, beautiful woman who lit up every room she was in," Casey McIntyre's husband told Newsweek.
So many people keep their kids in school because they THINK it's how they'll maintain friendships. But just remember,
"Forced association is NOT socialization." (Adele Carroll)
Desk proximity doesn't mean shared interests - and that's how true friendships happen. Lots of opportunities exist in the real world for kids who love to be around other kids.
Parents have to get creative, but they're out there!
It may help to get the Unschooling Guide about Socialization - so many of us may need to examine some of the ideas we're carrying around about this!

Antisemitism is the epitome of lovelessness and dehumanization. You can’t love yourself or anyone else when you stand in lovelessness. Antisemitism in all forms is violence. It corrodes what connects us as humans.

What if the typical steak was labeled honestly: "Produced from confined cows, who stand crowded in their own manure, have received antibiotics and hormones, and fed an unnatural diet of corn and soy." Genetically modified corn and soy, that is.
We link to what we found be a very powerful video about how food is marketed to us via https://campsite.bio/nourish
!
Some choose a plant based diet as an alternative to factory farms. We don't recommend a plant based diet but, do recommend pasture raised meat, poultry and dairy. We also recommend books by renowed farmer Joel Salatin via https://campsite.bio/nourish Joel's Polyface Farm is a sustainable alternative to factory farms. Animals are raised on pasture, with respect.
Thank you A Life Worth Living, with Chana Rus 💕 thanks to you coming home with a new baby ( #8) hasn't been crazy...we have such a productive and self-governing rhythm going that home school, play and family work have just continued to flow 😉... I can even nap during the day with the infant! emotional outbursts are far and few between as the kids really learn, work and play well together... so much gratitude!!! Hashem should give you good health, strength and sitya dshmaya to continue on your mission reaching out and mentoring more immas on our life journeys healing and strengthen families!!!💕 ~Miriam M. , Israel
We've always incorporated grown-up tools, life skills activities and the outdoors in our fifteen year journey running a homeschool co-op.
Even the wee littles among us were able to learn and grow safely amongst these supposed dangerous environments and things!
It's a site to behold a three year doing what older children can do! Watching their respect and understanding of themselves, others and the environment around them was truly the best of our life-learning experience.
Knowing our youngsters needed a more natural world, full of real life lessons that nature intended to grow humans into self-governing and self-reliant adults is one of the reasons why I studied to be a Waldorf teacher 💕
Why not opt out of the conveyor belt educational system?
This can be done anywhere, and should be done everywhere children live!
Begin in your home abc invite the neighbors…
This is how we make a real positive difference in the world, one child at a time! 💚
Thank you, Chana Rus Cohen, for helping me raise my children in such a loving homeschool environment on our little island in the sun. I think Jessica, Annalise and Joey would all agree that those were some of their best days❤️Love and miss you so much! ~Lisa L.

Have you ever sprouted a new plant from some of your kitchen scraps? The homeschool project of creating a kitchen scrap garden was a success! 🌞We have cabbage and celery in the far right container. Green onion and lettuce in the middle and just starting to shoot lettuce and celery sprouts inside the left container. Time to get them into some dirt! 🌞
An Instagram post by a client in our parenting/homeschoolngi tribe...
We are working on our family vision. What do we want for our family???
I love how Channah sneaked my phone and took these snippets while we were working deeply.
The metaphor I was giving was "Imagine you were on a ship and there was noone at the wheel. What would happen to the ship??" Kids gave amazing answers. "Now imagine a wheel in your mind. You are your own ship. Are you going to let that happen to your life?"
Family meetings are now an integral part of our life. We never had them before homeschooling. Everyone had their own lives and we were on the conveyor belt. Just going with the motions and living in the chaos. Now at least once a week we meet and discuss:
Family goal making.
Personal goal teaching.
Checking in with each other.
Mindfulness.
Teaching values.
Making sure we're a tight knot. Bonded together. Supporting each other. Knowing where the family is going and where we all need to go separately.
Even though Channah is 5 she still completely partakes in the meetings. She has a voice like everyone else. She shares what's on her mind. It's never too young to teach the littlest ones.
It's also not late to start your own family vision statement. Don't wonder what happened to your own ship. Stear that wheel or the wheel will continue to stear you.
Thank you Rus Cohen for being the best mentor I've ever had. I'm glad I finally grabbed the wheel.

So many studies have followed the result of unschooling in a child turned adult….
Statistic after drastic show unschoolers get into any higher learning establishment they choose, are self-governed, purpose driven, deeply thoughtful, know how to learn, love learning, and are joyful compassionate community members.

A reminder that homeschooling doesn;t have to look like school and that life-learning is just folded into everyday life.
And when the tutor was absent, the youth took over and stepped in for some self-directed learning!
I love looking around at the end of the day, the remnants of learning and children growing scattered about... Science Lap Books and Copy Work Books laying around. Paint brushes drying with the dishes in the drain board. Pallets and sponges soaking in the sink. Latin Flash Cards on the coffee table. Philosophy and History books on the dining room table. Graphic Novel sketches on the big white board. Alfalfa soaking, avocados, marjoram, dill, cilantro and parsley tucked away in make shift green houses for sprouting. Kombucha Tea double fermenting, harvested baby Scoby's to start a new. Teen practicing piano in her bed room... And, me tired, but, content with thankfulness for this life learning journey!
