So, Merry Shavemas.... took this W&B out today, haven't handled it in like - maybe - 5 years or so. Guess what? The rear scale is split through the pivot and about an inch past toward the wedge....wasn't like that when I got it, used it, or when I put it away. Gremlins... yeah, that's it...

For those wondering why 8k isn't always 8k.
Microgrits: Electrical Resistance Method
Beginning in the 1970's, some abrasives companies began using electrical resistance to measure microgrits. The principle of electrical resistance measurement is that a particle will cause a change in the strength of a current proportional to the volume of the particle.
The sizes registered also a problem. The Coulter cannot take particle shape into account, and registers only particle volume. To translate this into diameter, the instrument assumes all particles are spheres, and gives a particle's diameter as the diameter of a sphere of the same volume (spherical equivalency).
For example, a calcined alumina with an aspect ratio of 5:1, which has an average particle size of 12 microns on a sedimentometer, will have an average size of approximately 7 microns on a Coulter.

From my contact at Shapton, regarding the 16k Glass Stone and using it with Razors..
"If your sharpening skill can allow yourself to use 16000 after 8000, it will be OK too. Choice and combination depends on a user, and it is a kind of fun part of sharpening."
She also said the 30k was fine for razors also..... suggested for use after 10k. I agree with that suggestion.
