Mission & Objectives
The Institute is committed to the furtherance of Food Science and Technology through lifelong learning and interaction and collaboration amongst professionals, locally and worldwide, and has the following objectives:
- To promote the standing of the food profession and to maintain high ethical standards throughout the profession;
- To develop and maintain collaboration with
SIFST organized an enriching event titled โInsights into Successful Food Product Developmentโ on 6th November 2024 at Republic Polytechnic. This thoughtfully curated session was tailored to benefit students from various IHLs, providing them with valuable industry insights and expertise.
The event featured industry professionals who shared their extensive experience and expertise in food product development. Attendees gained valuable insights into innovation, market challenges, and strategies for creating food products that meet consumer demands.
This engaging session not only provided students with a clearer understanding of the food science industry but also encouraged them to think creatively and pursue their passions in this dynamic field.

Following the SFAโs recent approval of 16 insect species for human consumption, there has been a notable surge in industry interest surrounding the regulations, safety standards, and best practices that accompany this innovative development. To address this growing curiosity, SIFST organized a professional talk on 29th August 2024 at Temasek Polytechnic.
The event featured Mr. Herman Teo, Deputy Director of the Risk Management and Surveillance Department at SFA, who delivered an insightful presentation titled "Singaporeโs Regulatory Approach to Insects for Human Consumption and Animal Feed."
Mr. Herman Teo provided a thorough overview of the regulatory framework that governs the use of insects in both food and feed within Singapore. He offered detailed insights into the stringent safety standards required to ensure the quality and safety of insect-based products, emphasizing the meticulous processes and criteria necessary for regulatory compliance.
As a unique addition to the session, participants were also given the opportunity to taste a specially crafted cricket bun, providing a practical experience of how insects can be creatively incorporated into food products.
From August 10th to 17th, 2024, SIFST organized a technical tour to Chongqing, China, under the theme "Food Tech Revolution: A Business Education Journey." This tour provided an extraordinary opportunity to explore the latest advancements in high-tech food manufacturing and innovation.
During the week-long tour, participants had the chance to visit some of Chongqing's leading food technology companies, gaining first-hand insights into cutting-edge practices and developments. In addition, we engaged in insightful roundtable discussions with local government officials and industry leaders, exploring potential partnerships that could significantly benefit Singapore's food industry. This experience offered participants a comprehensive view of the rapidly evolving landscape of food technology and the future possibilities for growth and collaboration.
SIFST would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all the participants for their enthusiastic support and active engagement throughout the tour. Your involvement was instrumental in making this journey a success.
