this is a song about nothing. the nothing that occupies a jaded and overworked brain. the nothing that creeps into your 3 am contemplations. the nothing that tells you nothing matters.

hey. we just put out our first song in over two years. things are different; we've re-branded, done some huge shows, traveled pretty extensively, and gone viral. it's been exciting, enthralling, amazing… every buzz word in the dictionary. but, like everything in life, there's always darker side.
in short: for every viral video there've been HUNDREDS of "duds." for every big show, there are ten that are literally for NOBODY.
yes, things are different now than they were two years ago because we've seriously asked ourselves if we wanna keep doing this. no artist in this day and age is unaware of the term "content" and how intimidating it can be to keep pace with social media. high pressure work, surgical attention to detail, and all with little to no guarantee of reward. we shoot and edit everything. we are our own producers, mixers, and roadies. we manage our own social media. to be honest, it’s f*cking exhausting. is it worth it? is it too much? is this what we wanted?
when you ask yourself the hard questions one of two things happens. you give up. OR your resolve becomes steel. each of us has a life outside of Movie Night; careers that demand more attention as time goes by. but we'll still cram into a hatchback with our gear and drive 17 hours to Iowa to play for maybe nobody.
and we'll be dropping songs once a month for the foreseeable future.
to wrap it up, "My Friends Must Be Dead" is not a f*ck you to friends that don't have your back. it's a f*ck you to the modern standard of always being switched on and how, if you switch off even for a second, you disappear.
