Filmed in NYC, this was the last song that I performed live pre-pandemic. I didn't realize quite how apt the song was at the time. I was accompanied by two of my greatest pals, Scott Jarmel (drums) and Eric Modena (bass). Thanks to Liz Jarmel for the footage.

I carried this guitar part around in my head for years, always envisioning that it would be used for some epic, multi-part song. It wound up being a minute long.
Sister Rosetta Tharpe is my guitar hero. Listen to this song. Nobody has ever rocked harder on an acoustic guitar.
"Mt. Moriah" by Auditorium.
From the album THE FIRST MUSIC.
Lyric video by Ben Barnes.
Writing lyrics tends to be the slowest part of the music-making process for me. This song was different. All the words tumbled out one afternoon. I had been reading a news article about a wildfire that had claimed the lives of a group of extraordinarily brave firefighters. At the same time, I'd also been thinking about something else that day: all of the terror and horror that my mother's side of the family had endured during World War II. Those two very different ideas kept swirling around in my brain, and when the swirling stopped, I realized I'd finished writing this song.
