Our Story

This is a fan tribute page for High Fidelity Recording Studio formerly housed in a building at 1059 N. Porter in Wichita, KS (at the corner of Briggs & Porter). The page was published by fans of the studio, originating from a request for such a page by guitarist Dawayne Bailey. The studio where so much music history was made - for decades - long closed but the building and sign are still there to this day - some very special people need to do a documentary on that shrine before it's too late and long gone. Among the artists who recorded at the studio were Mike Finnigan, John Salem, Bob Hartley, Rudy Love, Bill Glenn, Rusty Russell, Craig Twister Steward, Jedd Beaudoin, Sandi Stevens Barrese, John Collison, Gary Scott, Greg Stevens, Greg Skaff, Ed Macy, Dawayne Bailey, The Embarrassment, and The Bampots. It's Wichita's Sound City. Musician Jimmy Carl Black recorded at the studio with Pat Bell right before moving to Los Angeles and meeting Frank Zappa who then formed the incredible band “The Mothers of Invention” in 1964. That's just a tiny part of the amazing deep history of that shrine to Wichita music - they also released many vinyl records on the KanWic label and many others.....Bob Hanna, etc.
