The popular Hillarys Yacht Club Pot of Gold Weekend will come up quickly after the Christmas/New Year festivities, so it's time to start preparing.
Saturday's Pot of Gold Race is part of both the Coveted Siska Trophy and Short-Haul series on the Ocean Racing WA Calendar.
Hospitality at HYC after racing is legendary, including economical food choices and a live band.
Then there's the Shepherdess Cup, a legacy of Claremont Yacht Club's former involvement in Offshore Racing but not currently sitting in any ORWA series, to get you home on Sunday.
POT OF GOLD WEEKEND - JAN 20-21, 2024.
Ocean Racing WA invites you to start the new year with a great weekend of racing hosted by Hillary’s Yacht Club.
Sponsored by Beneteau by Mansfield Marine Brokers, there are three different races to suit, with berthing available and plenty of post race social activities. Check out the poster below. Further information and entry options will be posted soon.
A recent message from Scottie from Marketing regarding Geographe Bay Race Week 2024 - the 21st Edition ...
Lots has been happening at GBYC in preparation for another exciting Race Week, with only 6 weeks to go I hope your all prepped and ready to go!
Full event details can be found here: https://www.gbyc.com.au/raceweek/
The new alfresco area is AMAZING, we can’t wait to show off our latest addition when you visit the Club next.
Onto another matter, Geographe Bay Yacht Club needs to start looking at replacement of a few of their on water support vessels.
If there is the possibility of an old Rib/VSR that anyone may be thinking of upgrading we would love the opportunity to be considered to purchase?
We also need to look at a new Start boat for regular Saturday Sailing, We would like this to be:
1. Trailer-able
2: Preferred Outboard
3. Maybe a Catamaran with limited space downstairs
4. Toilet?
Please let me know if you know of anyone who may have something suitable for our needs.
Many Thanks,
Scott Olney

Here’s a summary of the recent ORWA AGM. It seems that a review of objectives and operations is underway, which is good, because participation this season has been rather disappointing, shall we say?

If we can’t go racing on the Harbour, the Catalpa is a fair substitute (though not such a spectator event!).
Atomic Blonde has finished and Wyuna is approaching the harbour, so that looks like some important boxes ticked ahead of the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race 2023.
Wyuna & Atomic Blonde are close-ish on the water and VERY close on IRC as they approach the second night at sea. They are expected to finish some time tomorrow morning.
The little boats are doing well in this race - though conditions sound a bit miserable!
2023 Cabbage Tree Island Race - UPDATE Saturday 0930hrs
LawConnect has a slight lead over Andoo Comanche & SHK Scallywag 6nm south of Newcastle heading homeward - the three about to pass the last of the fleet Sylph VI still outbound.
They are running down the coast inside the rhumb line, LawConnect doing 11.1kts with an average of 8.3kts for the 14.5hrs raced.
Behind is a pack of chasers loosely based on length, with URM Group, Alive & Wild Oats X sparring with No Limit, Moneypenny & Whisper along with the group of 50 footers.
Drizzle continues along the coast with single digit SWs likely to swing to the SE later in the day.
On current standings, the smaller boats Azzurro, Currawong (TH), & Son of a Son along with the next seven Division 2 entries lead their Division 1 counterparts for Overall Honours but it is a close affair & is definitely anyone's game. Celestial, Koa & Sticky are the best placed in Division 1.
PHS is a similar story with Currawong (TH) over Azzurro & the Farr 43 Wild Oats.
