Wolf van Elfmand

New folk & strange country Wolf van Elfmand makes songs and plays the guitar. A live Wolf show is sure to make you smile, and possibly think, but not too hard

His music explores genres within the realm of Americana from finger-picking country to good ol’ fashioned rock & roll. 2021 has been a busy year at Wolf HQ, he released 2 albums (All Blue in February and Gypsum in September) on top of recently resettling in Brooklyn after a long stint in Colorado.

🚨New music alert 🚨

I used to be in an Americana band and we’d play all the mountain towns in Colorado. After we split up I reached out to some of those same venues telling them I’ve got a new country ensemble. Two of the venues instantly replied, “Sorry, no country.” So, in honor of that experience, I wrote this song, aptly titled “Don’t Call It Country.”

If you’ve been coming to my shows the last few years you’ll know that this tune often makes the rotation. But for those of you who haven’t heard it or have only heard me do it solo I hope you give it a spin. It features , , , and , a dream band IMHO. Let me know what y’all think. Link in comments

Well folks, I gave in and tried a little AI generated art. The prompt was “a painting of a band of ghosts playing instruments in a bar filled with pumpkins.” I’d say, home run. Anyways, full band with , .talmadge, .henry at The Jalopy Tavern on 10/27. It’a gonna be a hoot 👻

Bit of an exciting day here as I’m releasing some new music. This track, Big Ol’ Binge, was written a couple years back when I was a music therapist at a hospital in Denver. It’s part of a larger collection of tunes that I’ll tell ya more about sometime soon. Enjoy

Thanks to for featuring my tune “The Other One’s Heart” on their monthly playlist. AND, thanks to for backing me up and recording it with me. Follow the link in my bio to hear it. (The song on this video is a different song because I don’t think it’s searchable on IG, confusing, I know)

A couple months back I drove up to the Whirly Burly (Burlington, VT) to take part in a session with the The Wormdogs. The concept was you’d show up at the studio (Danica's house) play them a song and then record it. All done under the guidance of producer/writer/engineer extraordinaire Eric George. I wrote a song with the Dogs in mind attempting to channel artists that inspire both of us like Michael Hurley and Dan Reeder. They’ve dubbed the session Cookin’ With (The Wormdogs) Vol 1 with another group of songs to follow. I really love this band, they’re the sweetest group of folx with endless talent to boot. Give them a follow and check out the album

If you didn’t know, I like birds. However, since I only shoot photos with a prime lens (no big fancy zoom like most bird photography) I rarely can capture them. Yesterday at Marine Park in Brooklyn this yellow crowned night heron let me get a couple feet away while she hunted for crabs. We had a moment

My album High Desert Valley 🏜 is now alive and available wherever you indulge in a highly valued listening experience. Hope y’all enjoy it and stream it relentlessly, on repeat while you sleep, waking your neighbors, unfazed and smiling throughout. Snaps from the session at .howie’s studio by . You can tell I’m a musician by the ones with the guitars and microphones

Appreciation post 🙏🏼 With High Desert Valley coming out tomorrow I wanted to take a second to thank all of the people who helped make this record. Since my last 3 albums had more of a full-band sound I was eager to get into the studio to capture some live performances, more reminiscent of a solo Wolf show. .howie engineered, produced and mixed this record from his studio in Brooklyn. He was patient with my antics, deliberate in his mic placement and creative in his approach (he also slayed bass on Everyone Else). Definitely recommend Ryan for fellow NY musicians. helped out by recording on bass for Red Planet and on vocals for Piece of My Heart. Lastly, it was a complete joy to have visit from Vermont to play violin on Buying Time. It was mastered by , my 3rd project with Alan, and he’s a total pro, he nailed it. Lastly, was generous enough to let me use his incredible painting for the cover and always knows the coolest fonts for knocking out the design. I’m ready to have this thing out in the wild. Thanks so much to everyone who helped make it what it is 😌

A week from today we’ll be celebrating the release of High Desert Valley at .tavern and .hale is joining the bill. Come hang 🏜🍻

19/07/2022

I’m here to announce that my album High Desert Valley will be released next Thursday (7/28). This is my most vulnerable and stripped-down record to date. All songs were done by tracking vocals and guitar live, the songs were written from July 2020 thru February 2021, and a few close friends are featured on the minimal overdubs that are scattered throughout. Though I’ll be sharing more tidbits about this record in the coming days, I’d like to start by thanking for this beautiful painting that we used for the cover. It perfectly suits the mood of this album and hearkens back images of my home in western Colorado of which many of these songs are drawn from 🏔

Hey y’all, while I’m stuck here in the Orlando Airport I thought I would let you know a few things. First off, thanks to everyone who’s listened to “Heavy.” Its now on Bandcamp where, if you didn’t know, you can buy the track or give a little money to the artist. Since it’s a whacky world out there on streaming platforms every little bit is very much appreciated.

For my NYC community, I wanted to tell y’all that my new weekly open mic at starts THIS WEDNESDAY from 6-8:30 and, as if that wasn’t enough, I’m also playing next door at the .tavern this Thursday from 8-11. Hope
I didn’t forget anything, probably did 🚣🏻
