In ancient history the serpent represented rebirth. It was an inseparable part of life and death circles, childbirth and sacred sexuality- the energy of life and creation.
That is the reason some religions marked the serpent along with female sexuality as symbols of desire, sin and death.
These religions had their eyes fixed only on one side of the mirror, not knowing that when they saw death, they were also looking at life itself. They are one and the same.
They forgot, the slithering dance of the snake is the same movement that creates life.
When a woman gives birth she moves her body in spirals and circles, a serpentine motion, to help her baby move through the gate.
When the bodies of two lovers are synchronized by love making, they dance like intertwined snakes as they create life.
Sexuality was never impure. It is fear of intimacy, of death, of life, that has led mankind to move away from the old ways and lose our connection to our sacred bodies. The snake was pushed outside of western culture and so were wise women, for identifying with the serpent, for being birth givers and midwives. We almost pushed away life in order to escape death.
Eventhough the serpent may still represent dangerous femininity in some beliefs, the serpent reveals what a woman and a man really are - wild and free.
The great mothers are here.

We hiked for four days before we got to this beautiful canyon. When we finally made it, I knew we had to film 'Roots' there. (Link in bio)

These difficult times make the timing of this new release seem ironic (link in bio). 'Roots' is about a utopian wish. A wish for mankind to realize we are all connected by the same roots. These roots run underneath all of us, deep in this earth that absorbs our blood as we fight each other over it. I decided to release this song anyway, in hope for better days.

The serpent is a close friend of the earth, and it knows its secrets. In ancient religions and animistic beliefs, the serpent symbol was sacred, as opposed to the more recent monotheistic perception.
This mysterious being was deeply connected to initiation, medicine, and sacred femininity alongside the spiral symbol and its ever going cycles which resemble a coiled snake.
Femininity is a spiral in its essence. Throughout our lives we complete cycles on a regular basis, both biologically and spiritually. Waxing and waning.. And as we give birth, a new cycle begins. A new life is born and we change, we become mothers. Like a snake shedding its skin. And these cycles go on, since the beginning of life and death on earth..
In 'Mothers' music video, the woman follows the serpent's path as part of her initiation. She replaces the wise woman as an elder. She sheds her skin and finally carries out her part in the spiral of womanhood.
All living things spiral as a serpent.

The process of giving birth to 'Mothers' was beautifully synchronized with my first real pregnancy. The first days of releasing this single were also the last days of the 3rd trimester.
This is us. A Matryoshka Doll.
A baby inside my womb. And myself in the same cave, the same womb that gave life to 'Mothers'..
I thank all the voices that led me there, to the depths of the earth. I am a mother.

At long last, I gave birth to my firstborn song. MOTHERS, the first single of 'THE ELDERS' project, has been a true shamanic journey. One that took me 30 years to complete.

Just like the character portrayed in the music video, I went through initiation guided by an ancient feminine essence that lives in us all, waiting patiently for us to remember it.
It all began in the depths of the earth with a distant humming that was played over and over in my head. Slowly, after long months in a cave (which some may call a recording studio) it came to life as this full musical piece which I have composed, produced and sculptured with my own hands.

In this rite of passage I have come to meet a wise woman, dancing goddesses, snakes, ancient stone circles, witches and professional artists. Also, one incredible man, and my wild self.
I am grateful for each and every one of those who took part in breathing life into this project. (credits in the comments section below).
A special thanks goes to the great goddess, mother of all things, and Lior, my beloved partner.

I invite you to join the tribe on YouTube and Spotify. (links in comments below).
Dancing around the fire with you,
Tal.
