Dr. Grant Tinsley is an Associate Professor at Texas Tech University and the Owner of Tinsley Consulting LLC where he provides consulting services in the areas of dietary supplement formulation, scientific review, data analysis, and fitness. He also serves as the Director of the Energy Balance & Body Composition Laboratory. The major interests of his laboratory are the critical evaluation of body composition assessment techniques, the influence of intermittent fasting on health and physical performance, and sports nutrition strategies to improve performance and body composition.

We are deeply saddened to learn that Jake Boykin passed over the weekend.
Jake was a bright young professional and aspiring researcher who had touched the lives of many. He was very active with TACSM during his time as a student at Texas Tech University, where he studied under Dr. Grant Tinsley. In fact, Jake received one of the 2021 TACSM Student Manuscript Awards. He also was actively engaged in research and presented at each TACSM while he was a student member. Jake continued his education at Florida State University with Dr. Mike Ormsbee.
In the words of Dr. Tinsley, Jake brought forth passion, joy, and excitement to his peers, lab mates, mentors, and those who knew him. He was a talented and kind person.
To those who knew Jake and his family and friends, our thoughts go out to you.

Dr. Ormsbee is an Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition, Food, and Exercise Sciences, is the Interim Director of the Institute of Sports Science and Medicine in the College of Human Sciences at Florida State University. He is also an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa and a Fellow of the . Dr. Ormsbee’s research is focuses on the interaction of exercise training, nutrition, and supplementation as a means to achieve optimal body composition and human performance, as well as favorable health outcomes across a wide range of populations.

This week TACSM’s Frank Wojan, PhD student at The University of Texas at Austin, will be competing in The ACSM President’s Cup competition. He will be displaying his research entitled “Impaired Erythropoietin Response to a Single Session of Intermittent Hypoxia in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes” this Wednesday at 2 pm in Denver. Wish him luck!

Dr. Craig Crandall of the Thermal and Vascular Physiology Laboratory at IEEM is currently searching for a full-time research associate.
Ideal candidates should have their master’s degree in exercise physiology or a related field. Additionally, experience in thermal and/or cardiovascular research is recommended.
