My dear friend Jeff Cordova wrote the guitar progression to this song many years ago. As he played, I wrote the lyric. I never could’ve imagined just how much it would apply to my life, and the lives of many of my most loyal friends! Those of us who have conquered a vice in our lives should be judged by being victorious over whatever it was that plagued us! Instead, we are still sometimes plagued by being judged for what we used to be. You’ve heard the saying “don’t judge a book by its cover”, but I’ll take it a step further, don’t judge a book by just a few pages because ya might miss out on something amazing. This song goes out to friends, family, and even people I don’t know who have defeated their demons through the power of Christ Jesus!
Addiction
Vs1
You’ve been fighting you
Ever since you were a kid
Seems your demons won
More than your good side ever did
You let your wayward soul
Lead you to a darker side
And the expression on my face in the mirror
Tells the tale of me inside
Chorus)
Lord I can’t go on this way
But I built these walls around me to stay
Lord can you see me, here I stand
Please take my hand
Or is it too late
Vs2
The pages in my life
I nearly burned them all away
But I don’t pity me
For laying in this bed I made
But when I’ve tried to change
My will showed just too lazy
And when the end was knocking down my door
I was a pill away from crazy
So I bowed my head and prayed, I said
Chorus)
Lord I can’t go on this way
But I built these walls around me to stay
Lord can you see me, here I stand
Please take my hand
Or is it too late
Vs3
Now the day is new
When I open up my eyes
I’m on solid ground
For the first time in my life
The things that held me down
Won’t rule me another day
And the expression on my face in the mirror
Says it’s never too late
I’d like to dedicate this song to to my beloved family and friends and to ANYONE that doesn’t need a government “leader” to tell them the status of the human condition!
Bridges Over Walls
Can we once more be a nation, united under God?
Can we be kind to our neighbors, and seek those that are lost?
We are steady at a stagger, surely bound to fall
Unless we all come together to start, building Bridges Over Walls
Can change take on more meaning, than a politicians game?
Can we tell our sons and daughters, everything will be okay?
There will be no breaking boundaries, until that day dawns
That day when we all come together to start building Bridges Over Walls
Chorus)
One for all should be our mission
Separate minds but not division
Compromise but not submission
What a picture perfect vision
Vs3)
Will tomorrows distant memory find love within your heart?
For hate to fade in history, todays the day to start
We know time is not a friendly thing, and there’s not enough to stall
It’s time that we all come together to start building Bridges Over Walls
