🖥️ ⁉️🗃️ There is a crucial difference between keeping a paper card catalog on a kitchen shelf and having a computer program that replaces it.
🥺 Not everyone understands it, and we felt it's worth explaining again.
It's not so nice to be called "greedy" and "incompetent," but we know that it's not out of spite; it's simply a lack of knowledge.
🌎 It's not just about OrganizEat. It's about every app or software in today's world.
Recipes are forever 🧡
It would probably be no surprise if I told you I love getting 5 star reviews in AppStore and Google Play. It makes for the best moments of my day, when I get an email notification like that. Rachel and I have dedicated our professional life to make life better for the cooking enthusiasts, now in the age of mobile phones and pervasive internet access. We both quit superbly paid and envy-provoking positions in the industry. That is what we did it for. Here someone loves the app so much that he or she puts everything else aside for five minutes and writes a review. Five-star notifications are the emotional highs of my day.
Except this one. Yes, it is five stars. Yes, the person admits being our devoted user from now on.
Yet, I could not hold back my tears. Not when I read it for the first time. Not now, as I write this.
" The developer of this app truly cares about your experiences using her app. A rarity in todays world. I recently lost my wife who was a true lover and user of the app. I reached out to them to possibly move her collection over to me so i could share with the family going forward. Nothing short of phenomenal support. Thank you. A new devoted user !! "
A death in the family, it is devastating. I know from personal experience. What helped me back then was clutching onto small things by which I remember the moments together. Items perish. The grey woven sweater is holding up the longest.
When it's gone, all I'll have left is photos. They are digital. They are backed up on numerous hard drives, optical disks, memory sticks and on two different online services. Call me crazy but the photos are bullet proof safe.
Our family gathered money and planted a memorial grove. Trees. We gather in these woods once a year. To tell the stories. To be together. To remember together.
I wish I had the recipes left. I wish I could experience that taste that brings it all back again, for a second. Something eternal, for the times when the sweater is gone to threads.
I never thought of OrganizEat as a memorial. To me it was always a joy of cooking, something to celebrate life with. Thinking about it now, memorial, isn't it a bit of joy too? Sad on one hand, true. Though isn't the reminder of the good times together worth having?
Recipes are not just instructions on what to buy and how long to bake. Recipes have a story behind them. More than one perhaps. Recipes, in the eyes of the beholder or taster rather, are memories.
That is why they are forever.
