The electric SUV will come in a rear-wheel drive Endurance trim developing 210kW/545Nm and the VZ all-wheel drive brings grunt up to 250kW with no change to torque. Both will sit above the existing Formentor in the Cupra line-up and become the brand's second electric car after the Born's release.

Cupra’s signature ‘helmet’ design motif with blacked-out A-pillars and a kicked up window line gives it a sporty character.

Larger than a small SUV, the Tavascan measure 4644mm long, 1861mm wide, 1597mm tall and rides on a 2766mm wheelbase.

Inside is Cupra’s new 12.9-inch multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto sitting proud of the car’s ‘floating’ dashboard.

It is totally different from a VW electric car inside with a unique central spine textured like reptile scales, beneath it you will find practical storage and a wireless charging pad. A 12-speaker 425-watt Sennheiser sound system is available.

Power is drawn from a 77kWh battery for both trims with the AWD VZ’s driving range rated at 521km and the Endurance 568km (both WLTP combined).

The new-generation MG HS made its world premiere last week at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, but is only a couple of months away from landing in Australia.

“For the Australian market we are launching that car in the next two to three months. So that’s what we’re aiming for – it’s coming here quite quickly,” said MG Motor Australia senior product manager, Akshat Ahuja.

There are a pair of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variants in the current MG HS range, priced at $49,690 and $53,690 drive-away, but the all-new rival for the GWM Haval H6 will kick off proceedings in Australia with 1.5- and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engines.

THIS WEEK’S LOCATION – TALLEBUDGERA VALLEY, QLD

Its formal name is Tallebudgera Valley but in true Aussie minimalist style, you'll probably hear locals around these parts refer to it as the Tally Valley.

However you prefer to wrap your mouth around it, this lush valley at the back of Tallebudgera Beach leads you into emerald-green farmland and natural forests and the relaxed ambience for which the southern Gold Coast is renowned. Because it is so flush with nature, this region has lent itself perfectly to quality health resorts and eco-retreats in which you can completely escape through yoga, pilates, plunge pools, massages and facials.

GWM’s next-generation Haval H6 for Australia is set to be a larger model with plug-in hybrid power.

CarExpert understands the replacement H6 is expected to come here either late in 2024 or early in 2025.

But while GWM in China has revealed an updated version of the existing Haval H6, the nameplate is expected to instead be used on the Haval Xiaolong Max in Australia.

This vehicle was revealed 12 months ago at the 2023 Shanghai motor show as a “next-gen medium SUV” and “strategic model” for the brand, set for introduction to global markets.

BYD’s all-new battery-electric city car is a hot prospect for Australia, and could be a game-changer for first-time EV buyers if it lands near $30,000

It wasn’t that long ago that electric cars were ‘exotic animals’, even in big cities. Today, however, they are increasingly present in traffic. And the newest of these EVs on the Brazilian market is the BYD Dolphin Mini subcompact hatch, the local name for the model that is called Seagull in China. The ‘Dolphin Mini’ nameplate has also been trademark protected for Australia and could be a game-changer here by lowering the price of entry for a new EV to around $30,000. BYD has been a huge success in Brazil, combining sophistication with very aggressive prices, and it’s making solid inroads in the Aussie market. Although not yet confirmed for our market, the Dolphin Mini looks to be another surefire winner for the Chinese car-maker.

The Australian market eagerly awaits confirmation of the BYD Dolphin Mini hoping it will land on Australian shores in Q4 this year!
