PROJECT H2O
Some things just come hard….Tomi had a problem on Mon so I went to get him his pain med refill. I could see dark clouds coming south and expected rain but on my way home it barely sprinkled. Walked into my bedroom and discovered 2/3 of my 15‘ x 15‘ room was under water. I had left one window open 6”.
It took 3 hrs to wet vac up all the water (after rushing to HD to buy a wet/dry vac). Estimated 7 gal of water!
My HOA does not cover gutter maintenance. My neighbor who shares gutters with me has a gutter guard to prevent leaf clogs. But their guard stops right where our townhouses meet. So I must have a huge leaf blockage and that caused water to get directed into my room where the window was open.
Have spent the last 2 days washing everything that got wet, even my bedding got wet.
I guess that’s one way to get the floor washed……
PROJECTS #3 & #4: refinished my cherry dresser and nightstand stripped off green paint and original heavy lacquered dark stain back to natural wood - exhausting work but turned out ok. Had big problems with the sanding and finish, would chose differently knowing what I learned! Changed out the tiny cherry k***s that were hard to grasp for clear lucite and brushed brass for a “nature plus chic” look. The jewelry box was also a dark red stain and I painted it a blended deep green to soft teal and added a heron transfer, antiqued the mirror. Another learning project - WHOA! TOO MUCH LEARNING!
END TABLE MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
I primed the whole table then thought maybe if I restore just the top it would look good. After hours and hours removing the primer and original stain and shellac from the top and sanding sanding and dousing with many cleaners and chemicals such as acetone, the table is DONE. the top is finished with a single coat of gel stain in Au Natural. The rest of the table is painted in farrow and ball Wine Dark (2% sheen) mixed with a 1/2 cup Hague Blue (7% sheen) resulting in an almost dead flat finish.
The whole table was then coated in multiple thin layers of matte polyurethane so it has a no shine appearance. Hope those who wanted a full RESTORE like the result. The top has a very nice chevron pattern in walnut or cherry with a border of birch or some other very blonde wood. Very glad your votes pushed me to do the top natural - the result is unusual and striking!
END TABLE UPDATE: Thanks for all the votes - RESTORE was the most frequent choice.
I did more research and found that to restore I need to remove the wax and shellac top coats which after experimenting with a variety of solvents/cleaners is extremely difficult. With that top layer in place the restoration products will not work.
I agree painting over the beautiful wood is not the best…however if it was solid wood surface and not the existing veneer, I would definitely restore.
This project is meant to keep me busy this coming week when there’s not much else to do….this might be a BIG challenge, bigger than I expected….we’ll see if I can pull it off…..

VOTE: RESTORE finish or PAINT matte deep muted blue? This is a 50 yr old DREXEL oval end table with inlaid top. Not sure if it is walnut or similar wood or just stained to look walnut…..It’s in pretty good shape, most of it is veneer but was expensive back when originally purchased, has a couple very small shallow nicks and the finish is dull. I sprayed it with a couple cleaners to degrease and clean then took outside to rinse with water (the glossy look in the photos) since the cleaners kept sudsing. Hope that didn’t harm it. If I am going to paint I will scuff sand it all over before priming and then there’s no going back!
VOTE NOW!!! PLEASE.
The blue swatch is the approximate color I would paint it.
My son votes RESTORE cuz he thinks it’s classic.
Prince Tomi Feather new kennel for continuing recovery from his spine injury 9 days ago…. On total crate rest for 14 days and he is doing very well….emergency vet said it mite be degenerative disc disease or a soft tissue injury only an MRI could tell but that’s $1
K or more.. he could barely walk 2 Thursdays ago, tail & head down, not eating/drinking, crying when touched and legs very weak.
Got this new kennel (which came magically loaded with Tomi’s favorite treats - who knew!!!) so his wire crate can be on my bed Where he can sleep without risk of jumping off which may have caused his injury earlier that week.
Graduated off codeine but still pumping gabapentin for any lingering inflammation.
Life is looking UP!

Discovered Tomi has allergies - vet found bacteria and yeast in his ears and yeast on his feet. No wonder he has been growling at me over that last 18 months whenever I try to handle his ears. He had a shot of Cytopoint, a monoclonal antibody (mAb) treatment for dogs with allergies. It has really helped him. I can now pet his head and wiggle his ears without threat of being bitten. Good boy Prince Tomi Feather!

I moved to a new house. Its very quiet here and the deck is boring - no people or dogs - nobody to bark at. I go out and watch the woods just in case. My walkers come everyday so I get to see and smell new sidewalks.
Mommy took marble for a ride but mommy had raindrops on her face when she came home. I can’t find marble anywhere.

Mommy had her heart attacked and had to go on a long sleep over. They put a zipper on her chest. My boy Jimmy took care of me and Marble. He gots me food and water and play and snuggle. And my walkers came over more too. Mommy came home but she smelled different. I cant jump on her leg or sit on her chest. She cant play tug. But i am happy she is back and she smells better now. She sleeps alot and I sleep with her. She says when she can go on stairs again we can start to go on short walks. I can’t wait! The pic is before her zipper when I saw mommy on her sleep over.
