Some of the nice objects for the home, available from Saint Patina, a business at the Old Dairy run by Emily Maskell.
Emily says:
Hello, I’m Emily, curator and restorer of statement, rustic furniture and decorative vintage items. I’m intrigued about the past, and a protagonist against ‘throw away’ culture.
With an emphasis on patination, and a leaning towards rustic 17-19th century pieces, I delight in unearthing unique and authentic, time-aged pieces that bring joy to the soul and create a home bursting with interest and individuality.

Showing the work of William Horner, one of our resident artists.
William Horner was born in London, studied sculpture at the Royal College of Art and went on to set up Strangelove Studios in London. His work moves between object and image, setting up a play of associations through various materials and forms. He is interested in the precarious status of objects, how they fall out of use and re-emerge as images of themselves, opening up other purposes and imaginings.

Some words on my latest effort:
Red on red. A guitarist’s rocking chair made entirely from cherry wood. The seat is American cherry, and everything else is made from English cherry. The two woods are different in colour, the American is far redder than the English but the English wood will quickly darken and the two woods will converge in colour.
A good community spirit down at this afternoon. Why not come along? Merry Christmas!
First oiling, before and after. As mentioned this really brings out the colour. Still needs a fair bit of rubbing down.
The chair is all rubbed down now and ready for its first coat of oil. This will really bring out the colours of the wood. This chair is the first I’ve made entirely from cherry, although it’s a combination of American and local English cherry, with the former a noticeably deeper red. The English cherry will deepen in colour very quickly however.
Final assembly. It’s necessary to knock the joints back and forth until the tenons line up with the mortise holes. Next, sanding and application of oil which will show the colour of the wood.
Assembling the top half.
Carving and sanding the rockers.
Dry fitting of rockers to undercarriage.

Each second Saturday is when most businesses are open to the public, although most Saturday afternoons are also usually busy.
Measuring the angles, vertical and horizontal, at which the legs meet the rockers. Next is to drill and dry fit the rockers.
