We wanted to let our members know that Chester’s Twisted Que chose to remove their scores for the Runnells contest. We have updated the score and rankings document, and this will be reflected in the final Team of the Year standings. The Iowa BBQ Society Board will evaluate our current rules for future improvements.

Hello members and future members. We need your help to maintain the future of the Iowa BBQ Society. We will have 3 openings on the board for 2025 and need to get these filled. Please consider joining the board. If you're interested in joining the board, please send a bio to [email protected] by November 1, 2024. We have room for any interested parties to take part in some meetings or volunteer for committees yet this year as well. Please let us know if you have any questions.

In response to the questions and concerns from the event in Runnells, we wanted to provide a public explanation of the decision in this situation.
It is noted that Chester's Twisted Que attempted to compete both in a Heartland BBQ Society event and the Iowa BBQ Society event in Runnells. The IBS rep at Runnells, who is also certified as a KCBS rep, chose to allow the arrangement for our event.

Our Society's current rules state that a team may not cook under the same team name in two IBS sanctioned events at the same time. This does not prohibit participation in other sanctioned events. We are also aware that teams have competed in IBS contests while having surrogates competing in events for other sanctioning bodies.

In addition, nothing in our rules prohibits using a surrogate, or lending a team member to cook with another team. We would also refer to the situation in State Center, when a team gave up one of their members to form another team so we would have the 25 teams for KCBS qualifying.

We cannot pick and choose when rules apply and when they don't. We regret that this situation has taken away for anyone the spirit of fun, community, and sportsmanship that is intended in our Society. Our Society does not tolerate harassment, retaliation, or offensive treatment to or by our members and we will take appropriate action if we are made aware of it.

Hey, @ This was a busy weekend for BBQ contests, with the Tri-City BBQ Fest in Denison, and the Best of the Block BBQ Cook-Off in Stuart. Below are the updated Backyard TOY standings, including the results from Stuart.
PLEASE NOTE - I have not received the results from Denison, but wanted to share this update with what was available. I will follow up with the full Backyard & Masters series standings as soon as I get the Denison scores. Thank you for being patient!

Hey - There was a great contest yesterday at Lynnville, which means an update to TOY Standings for Backyard series!

EDIT: We now have a team with more than 5 contests! Way to go, Bbq Pit Bros! The totals formula is now updated to include the 5 top scores per competitor, and this post is now showing the correct scores.

The regularly scheduled Board meeting last week did not happen as planned due to other conflicts, so we are regrouping next week.
