What happened to Loki's whiskers?!? This is a question that often comes up with kittens once they get to be more active and playful. The answer is simply that his brother gave him a whisker trim with his teeth while they were playing 😆😂 The whiskers grow back, and the fun continues. Another great reason to have kittens in pairs - so they trim one another's whiskers and not your hair! Not every adoption story is the straight line that we hope for. SVPP pulled Carl from the shelter in late 2019 and he was adopted in early 2020. Through no fault of his own, he was returned to us in late 2023. Thankfully, his original foster was more than happy to welcome him back after so long. After many months of much needed medical care and lots of time spent with his best friend, Tilly, his foster family decided that Carl never needs to leave again. As you can see, he and Tilly are VERY EXCITED to learn they will be together forever 😆☺️😊 Happy Tails to Carl, and Tilly!

🌈 Remembering Our Beloved Pets on Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day 🐾

Today, on August 28th, we take a moment to honor and remember the cherished pets who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. 🌈 Today we honor Bear, a magnificent SVPP dog who recently passed away. Bear came into SVPP's program as a senior dog with Degenerative Myelopathy – a progressive nerve condition with no treatment. He thrived for 2 years with his compassionate foster turned adoptive family and will be greatly missed.

Over the years, we have been contacted by our adopters telling us when their former SVPP pet has passed, and we find comfort in knowing these special pets were the lucky ones that were rescued and placed in loving homes. The joyful memories they’ve left behind and their love and companionship will never be forgotten. 💖

Sweet Odin was born to a 10 year old shepherd whom Thulani pulled from a local shelter. That his mom had to be pregnant at age 10 is tragic enough, but that this boy cannot find a loving, forever home is equally tragic. Silicon Valley Pet Project works closely with our friends at Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue and we would love to help them find an amazing, committed forever home for this sweet boy. Calling our Thulani Community! We need your help finding Odin, formerly Sesame, a new foster or adoptive family! At 1.5 years old, Odin will need to join a family who is committed to spending time daily continuing his training. We think it will be best for him to be somewhere in a quieter suburban or rural neighborhood with a yard he can explore. He should be happy living with another larger dog, but doesn’t get along with cats. Odin bonds strongly with his person and loves plenty of cuddling time!

Bumblebee ( ) is a happy, 2 year-old GSD mix who has had a few great adventures with her Dog Day Out friends. She recently told us about her most recent adventure, "I love adventures and am excited to get in the car and get going. Once we got to the park I saw/smelled so many lizards and squirrels and I wanted to catch them all! I love investigating holes and trees hoping a critter might be lurking nearby. We saw other people and dogs and bikes, but I don’t really care, I just wanted to keep walking and sniffing. I showed off my sit and shake for some yummy treats and finally, we went to Starbucks, and I got a pupcup – delicious!" Snoopi and Cash came to us from different shelters, at different times, and under very different circumstances. They came together through their foster momma and magic happened. She knew almost immediately that these two were destined to be siblings! We are so very grateful to our amazing foster and so happy these two cuties will have the rest of their lives together ❤🥰🥰❤

Our adoption event was so much fun! We had lots of folks stop by and we got to spend time with lovely dogs and kittens, including Blackberry! This is an ask we never want to have to make. SVPP is in need of a new foster or foster to adopt home for 6 year-old Great Dane, Trooper. This gentle giant of a boy has been living with a Chihuahua, does great in the car, loves to be with his humans, and naps like a champ. We need a Dane-savvy home that understands that 125 pound dogs are strong and sensitive. Trooper is scheduled for his neuter, so a foster to adopt home would be ideal. PLEASE share Trooper and help us to find him a home where he can share his deep well of love and joy.

Handsome Citrine ( ) has been at since January and we cannot understand why! He is a delightful boy who loves to be out and about with his friends. His walker tells us, "Citrine LOVES fetch and is great at bringing the ball back and dropping it. He is also treat motivated and knows sit, as well as being very affectionate and cuddly. He is a smart, energetic boy who is eager to please – I think he would be able to learn a lot of commands and make a great family pet." Happy Tails to our wonderful Mac and Cheese! These lovely kittens were found by their foster momma (l) sick and abandoned in her yard. She worked with SVPP to get them well and ready for a forever home. Their adoptive momma (r) is so excited to have these happy, active brothers join her family! We wish her many, many years of love and fun with Mac and Cheese!

We don't know why tiny Peanut landed in as a stray. What we do know is that he caught the attention of a long-time shelter (and SVPP) volunteer who noticed he was not feeling well. She took him home through the shelter foster program and later reached out to SVPP to ask if we could bring him into our program to help get him through his kennel cough, potty training and find an amazing forever home for him. We love that we have these long-time relationships both with the shelter and with many of the volunteers, who help us to provide soft landings for pets in need. Welcome to Peanut!

Handsome Spamasubi is a 6 year-old Shepherd mix who would love to be your life partner! He loves to go for long walks and rides in the car, and enjoys passing other pups on the trail. It is something we don't often talk about as we share rescue stories. Sometimes, the animals we try to save don't make it. Last week we shared Loki, Conan and Baby Groot, three kittens who came to us through the efforts of concerned community members. Baby Groot was markedly smaller than his brothers and, sadly, none of our efforts to help him were enough. Failure to Thrive is the official term we use when a kitten doesn't make it, but that is hardly sufficient to encompass the love, care and sheer will that the foster families give to the kittens in their care. We mourn the loss of this tiny life, but remember that he did receive love. We also celebrate and continue to care for his brothers, who, we hope, will thrive.

Through no fault of her own, tiny Lily has been returned to SVPP three years after she was adopted. Like so many senior pets, Lily lost her home when her adopters both passed and the family did not want to care for her. As a rescue, we try to ensure that families who adopt from us have plans in place for their pet's care should anything happen, but sometimes those plans are not followed. Thanks to a loving SVPP foster home, Lily has made a soft landing back with us and we will do our best to ensure she is never left behind again. No matter what your stage of life PLEASE make a plan for your pets.
