Oakland, it has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as mayor of my beloved hometown. As leadership changes today and I congratulate Sheng Thao 盛桃, I am filled with gratitude + appreciation for all that we accomplished together on our mission to fulfill Oakland’s promise.

Together we reached historic heights in eight years: We built new partnerships, filled the potholes, kept our promises… and were unafraid to throw a few punches to defend Oakland and her values.

I love you, Oakland – I have always felt such pride about our beautiful, diverse + inclusive community. Thank you to everyone who helped us leave Oakland a more vibrant + equitable city.

Today we remembered the victims of homicides at the 13th annual Ceremony of the Crosses hosted by St. Columba Parish. Our deepest condolences to all who've lost loved ones - the whole Oakland community grieves with you. Let us rededicate ourselves in this new year to hope.
