Piptheotter
Instagram | Youtube | #piptheotter Pip is an Asian Smallclawed otter that was born in a ZOO. For almost two weeks the only thing she did, was sleep close to me..
Her mother gave birth to 5 healthy pups, But she had only 4 ni***es to feed them. As soon as my collegues and I found out that she wouldn't make it without a little help... I promised to take good care for her and took her home. And after that... we cuddled with her.. played with her.. I teached her how to swim.. For a few reasons she wasn't going back to the ZOO, so I gave her a few forever friends, to sleep with.. to play with.. to be with.. The second chance she deserved!

Iβd got a good question about Pipβs paws and claws after seeing my yesterday's video. β’
If she has nails? Does it hurt my skin as she plays underneeth my shirt like that? are webbed? Other otterspecies do have sharper and bigger nails and webbed feet! β’
The Asian Small clawed otter (Pip) can thank itβs name for itβs small claws of course. Their front paws do have webs, but are just very little. They need to swim fast though, thatβs where the webs are for, but the reason why Asian Smallclawed otters are the only otterspecies who do have small front paws with very tiny nails, isnβt all about their speed.β’
The smallest otterspecies in the world has a different way of catching their pray. The other otters use their strong bite and mouth for catching their food, but the Asian Smallclawed Otters use their very agile paws to catch their pray! β’
But the paws are so small..... how are they strong enough to catch a fish or other living pray? Well.. you maybe donβt see it on the outside of this tiny monster, but those frontpaws and arms are so amazingly strong! It even surprises me sometimes. I see it at her climbing skills, she can just jump over 70cmβs from of the ground, grabs something with only one paw, and pulls up her whole body higher and higher... with one tiny paw π±and so she climbs on our kitchen etc.

So dogs, otters and ferrets are carnivore. As you might already know, A carnivore is an organism that mostly eats meat, or the flesh of animals. Sometimes carnivores are called predators. Organisms that carnivores hunt are called prey. Carnivores are a major part of the food web, a description of which organisms eat which other organisms in the wild. πΎβ’
The fact that these animals' living environment is different by living in captivity, does not mean their body's are changed with that! They still are carnivorous animals that need the same ingredients to stay healthy. β’
For our dogs they've created a thousand variations of kibble (which also includes meat most of the time!), for ferrets too, but not for otters. I know they need to eat full pray (including bones, fish grates) to keep their furr and teeth healthy. But i also feel responsible for feeding them as variable and natural as I can give them β€οΈ As they would when they were wild βΊοΈ
