THE FUTURE
Well, yeah, it’s easy to get sucked into the one more feeling… But in reality it’s such of a beast of a thing to put on. We are all older and have new things to focus on these days. It’s been an amazing thing to have been part of, but I’m reasonably sure we are pretty happy to just go out with a bang. That being said, the party will continue and out of the ashes of the DME will rise the reincarnated Weekend at Kens aka Kenvitational aka KDOTPOTB, so keep your eyes open for that. Promises to be a very good time and keep the DME spirit well and truly alive…
THE GORGE
Some of you will be interested to know that that the Gorge will soon be managed by a charitable trust which has very recently been created to take the load of the gorge off the NMTBC club committee. It’s an exciting phase and will hopefully allow some new development and initiative. The primary objective is to develop the property into an all inclusive recreation and conservation space, with MTB obviously being a key component.
Anyways, got some invoices to pay so better get on with it…
Been a pleasure guys! Will keep the posts and story’s coming for a few days yet!

Final Results are live
Stoked for local ripper George Swift to take honours in the womens field and for Gary the Gorge's prodigal son (aka Wyn Masters) to finally have his moment at the park he did so much overtime at.
In the Mens Legend category we had an unfortunate omission of some stage 1 results when reviewing the overall times. Our New winner in the Category is none other than the ageless Rod Bardsley. Congrats and apologies to those concerned. The final timing wrap up was a bit of a mission with a lot of missing chips, big thanks to Ellie and Deany for their hard work!

Good afternoon units
Looks like we are all go, just follow these guys..
Couplee showers this arvo, which is actually ideal.
Remember we start in waves tomorrow, stick to these for rego and briefing and the day should flow like gravy. It will be a big day tomorrow, just keep the faff to a minimum and be good to go.
Camping, it’s an agricultural set up, that’s the way we like it - maximise the space we have, if you can dump gear and park back down the road out of the way that’s a good option. We will squeeze everyone in, but just be a thoughtful kiwi.
Take it very easy on the drive in, Wakefields the best route and includes a bonus bakery. You won’t win the race on the drive in, I’ve certainly seen people lose it.
FOOD TENT– TEA ON SAT AND SAUSAGES FOR SUNDAY LUNCH ARE FREE – OTHERWISE we have YUM GRANOLA, BURGERS AND CROISSOANTS for sale for $6 for breaky. There will be a sausage sizzle for couple $$ and Heaps of baking for sale too. Bring cash, coins and small notes.
COFFFEE – bring cash. Fatties and longies $5. Flash milk $6. Cokes $3. Chia $5
If you take away one thing from this, it’s BRING CASH

You’d have to take it wouldn’t ya? Or spin again and hope Friday clears up. Either way the gorge is looking sharp right now.
Had a few minor setbacks on admin in the last couple days, but the ball will roll this week. Will flick out info and merch will be posted etc etc.

The Ground Effect Haywire and Jellybeans have been flying off the hypothetical shelf too, they have a lot more visual appeal but are hardy as too. 10/10 would recommend.

Its time to assemble the dream team..
We have been very lucky to have had such an awesome bunch of people help behind the absolute scenes at the DME each year.
This year we need;
- Drivers for 4 new rental utes (both days) and a couple of new Bowater Hiluxes (both days)
- Bike wranglers to help keep shuttles moving
- Helpers for a couple of pre event course groom sessions
- Marshalls for the race course on Saturday
- Helpers for pack down of Barrys flat on Sunday
- Rego crew for Sat am
We have a wee crew of ex staff who will do most of the set up and prep work and a catering crew all over the food prep. Most shuttles now are driven by hired drivers too which makes life easier.
We will give you a DME T shirt, food and a coffee or three. You can camp out if you like. We will throw your names in the spot prize list. We will likely have a pre event catchup too, beer and pizza night.

DME Characters - in no particular order - #7
The one and only Brendan ‘cheesy morts’ Morton
You would have met Morts by now, somewhere along the line. He’s been an allrounder at the gorge and a massive part of the DME. He dabbles in the occasional bit of racing himself, does a bit of medic work, just a bit of everything really.
Morts operates on an excited enthusiastic energetic level, caffeine may potentially be a root source, whatever it is it’s worth bottling.
In classic gorge irony - A background in anthropology and knowledge of ancient civilisations didn’t stop Morts from a mothlike attraction - heading deep down the dark gorge rd to the absolute end of civilisation as we know it and never really leaving. He still ventures out there to help the crew out from time to time felling trees or chipping away at trails.
