Summit Sno-Riders Inc.
This page is to keep our snowmobile riders up to date on all things related to The Summit Sno-Riders Inc.
If we can’t ride we can at least eat!
This Sunday! All you can eat pancake breakfast. Includes: sausage, eggs, potatoes, pancakes, and sausage gravy. Along with: coffee, orange juice, tea and hot chocolate.
Jan. 29th:
Unfortunately, we did not receive enough snow yesterday to open the trails. Also, due to the rain prior to the snow, the base is all mud. Let's hope for a good freeze and more snow soon.
We are seeing questions on the Schoharie County site about whether or not trails will be opening, especially in Summit.
We currently are above freezing, it is snowing lightly and, we haven’t even an inch from today. Also, virtually all the snow we got in the last storm was melted by the heavy rains we got during the week.
Thus, no. Summit SnoRiders trails are NOT open, even on the hill.
Mon. 1/22/24
The snow on the trails has become very thin and will disappear quickly with warming temperatures. Therefore we are closing the trails immediately.
We have enough snow (barely 6 inches) to open the trails on the hill. Do not ride C7N north of Decker Road or S77.
We have had significant winds so please be cautious of downed tree limbs.
Stay on the trails! We have had landowners complain about those riders who are going off the trails and fooling around in the fields. Those are not fun phone calls to have to manage and, thus far, we have been able to keep the trails open. We need to protect the landowners’ fields as much as we can.
Save the date, and hope for more snow!!
Jan. 9th
Due to the forecasted rain, we are closing the trails as of 5PM this evening.
We have had questions as to what “up on the hill” means.
Trails south of Decker road are considered to be “on the hill” and tend to get more snow due to higher elevations. You can use the NYSSA interactive map to see where that is.
Also, We just discovered that the interactive map on our website doesn’t have the correct link so we will fix that next week. In the meantime to get to the interactive website you can go to the NYSSA website and get linked here:

We have been soliciting snow depths from all over our trail system and we have enough snow to open the trails on the hill. Do not ride C7N north of Decker Road or S77.
Please stay on the trails. We need to protect the landowners’ fields as much as we can.
Bruce and I just got back from breakfast at the Summit Conservation Club. The roads aren’t bad and they are plowed out at the club. So, looking for a good brunch/breakfast? Go on up!
To save on the questions...
We have NOT gotten 6 inches of snow as of yet so the SnoRiders trails are NOT open. We are hopeful with the additional snowfall we'll reach it later.
Yes! We are supposed to be getting snow! Right now, it’s a crap shoot in figuring out how much that will be. So…..to answer questions we most frequently see….
1) There are rules we must follow before we open the trail system. The most important one is there MUST be AT LEAST 6 inches of snow to do so. We have to make sure that we have a minimum of 6 inches prior to opening them up.
2) There are several ways you can see whether or not the trails are open. We will post on our page and our website as soon as the determination is made to open the trails. We also will update the NYSSA interactive map.
Here it is! Get ready for some really good eating!
Now, if it would only SNOW!
Oh, and the SnoRiders meeting is Wednesday evening at 6:30P this week.
Mark your Calandar….. Our first Pancake breakfast of the season will be Sunday, January 7th from 8-11am. Happy New Year!
A few of our members have been working on a small reroute on S77 near Hadsel Rd. This will eliminate riding down the shoulder of the road. As always thank you to our landowners and volunteers. Please use the reroute and obey the signage.

We had our October meeting last evening and it was very productive!
We have planned 3 work days:
Trail work: Sunday, October 22 and Saturday, October 28. Please join us if you can! We will be meeting at the groomer barn between 8:30 and 9A.
On Friday, November 10 at 1P we will meet to get the groomers in shape and cleaned up.
If you can join us at any of these work events, please respond to this post as to which day you can help. We have about 70 miles of trails we need to make ready for the season.
Also, more to come but we have scheduled a Snowmobile Safety Class on December 9 at the Summit Conservation Club. There will be a separate posting on that soon but keep it in mind if you have children who are 10 and over, or if you are just starting to snowmobile and want to be informed.
Due to Monday being Labor Day our first meeting of the year will be Wednesday, September 6 at 6:30 at the Summit Conservation Club. Our October meeting will return to Monday, October 2 at 6:30.

Last stuffed pizza weekend……schedule change!
Thank you for Sharing!
We are expecting temperatures in the 50’s today and rain tomorrow so all Summit SnoRiders trails are closed.
We hope you enjoyed some riding last weekend.
March 17
We can’t catch a break this winter.
We have to close the lower trails: S77 and C7N between Decker Road and Route 7 are closed.
Nice place to stop while you’re riding!
We were able to get a groomer out today and they:
*Groomed out to where we join Sharon Pathfinders trails down to Worcester
*All the Caskey mountain trails
*C7B over to Decker Rd and over to the entrance of Mallet Pond Forest
Hoping to get another session tomorrow evening.
Groomed trails are great. We will have the usual wet spots though as these temperatures are doing us no favors.
We got at least 6inches of new snow so, for now, all trails are open!
There are the usual wet spots so, take care.
Please respect our landowners.
We have had reports of snowmobiles crossing the lakes in our system. Please be aware that the ice is not safe. Stay off the ice!
Come on up and enjoy!
Don’t feel like cooking this Friday night, March 10th. The club will be serving sausage, peppers & onions, burgers, hot dogs, chili and fries from 5-8pm. Stop in, warm up and visit with friends. (Thank you to our members that volunteered to open)
March 6:
Unfortunately we are having to close the trails down the hill: S77 and C7N between Decker Road and Route 7 are closed. Also, any trail below the cell tower to Worcester is also closed.
How many of you can get into their snowmobile suits they wore in 1971?
And, the Vintage Ride is off.
It's a small but enthusiastic group.
