A rescue that focuses on Pembroke & Cardigan Welsh Corgis. Based in NC, SC, and GA. We rescue, foster, and adopt in/to NC, SC, GA, and sometimes TN and VA.
This rescue group, was established over 15 years ago and we have helped hundreds of corgis and corgi mixes find their forever homes. We are foster and donation based, both are integral parts of our ability to help Corgis in need. Feel free to post ones in need, we will do what we can to help. If you need to find a new home for your corgi, we will try to help. If you're interested in helping, messag
Monty is working on his resume today, and he's putting #1 snuggle buddy at the very top.
What did you do to make your corgi smile today?
From all of us at SECR, Happy National Dog Day!
It breaks our hearts to share the news today that SECR has lost another one of our own. Henry left us after a prolonged battle with declining health, and we miss him deeply. This dog taught us every day what it really means to rescue. We're grateful for his forever foster parents who stopped at nothing to ensure he always had the loving, perfect-for-him family that he always needed.
What follows is a tribute to Henry from his Foster Mom:
It is with a very heavy heart that I share the sad news that we had to say goodbye to our beloved little firecracker, Mr. Henry. He slowly lost his ability to walk, which eventually caused him immense stress and pain. Looking back through photos and videos of him over the years, I realize just how much his illness stole from him over the last few months. One thing is for sure, that he always knew how very much he was loved throughout it all.
Henry was truly one of a kind. During the three years we had together, he taught us so much about rescue and life in general. It's easy to romanticize rescuing dogs, to think that with enough time and love, you'll get your perfect pet. Henry taught us that sometimes harm has been inflicted that can't totally be undone, and you have to be okay with meeting a dog where they are. I don't know what happened to Henry in the first 7 years of his life, I just know that I wish we could have gotten him sooner and that his second life with us could have been longer.
Henry's boundaries and "spicy" personality (as deemed by the vet's office where everyone knew him well with his regular spa visits) could be challenging to say the least, but he sure did show us a lot of love over the years and I am so honored to have been his person. I'll never forget the way he'd lick my feet when he was happy, the way he'd come up to me demanding head scritches, the way he'd run up and down the hall when it was time for "walkies" and herd his lazy brother to the door. I've never seen a dog who appreciated walks more than Henry, and it felt like a gift we could give him every day. On his walks, he appreciated the finer things like selectively walking slowly through the yards with the nice thick grass, as well as the simpler things like eating worms. I've also never seen a dog who loved car rides as much as Henry, and despite his normal desire for personal space, he would always make sure his head was right next to yours when you started driving, tongue out, smiling the whole time.
In true corgi fashion, he ruled the house with his larger than life personality. He would not hesitate to let you know if you were deviating from his daily routine by staring at you and grumbling until you followed his orders. In the words of my husband "despite not having his full mental faculties, he managed to con us everyday by demanding treats for everything." One of my favorite funny memories of Henry is how when I would throw a frisbee in the yard, his corgi brother Bodhi would run after it, but Henry would bolt in a seemingly random direction which often caused him to run straight into Bodhi's side. He loved playing in the yard, going for walks on the beach, taking naps behind various plants/shrubs, and hunting lizards (though luckily, he typically wasn't very good at this).
During our last moments with him, the vet asked about special memories, and it was so nice to be able to share some of the above. We were able to hold him and tell him how very much he was loved, and it was an unexpected gift to be able to see him truly relaxed for the very first time. I miss him every day, and even as the weeks go by, every morning I come down the stairs I automatically want to say "Good morning Mr. Henry" as I start my day. He has left a hole in our hearts for sure. Saying goodbye to Henry is one of the hardest things we've ever had to do, and we will cherish the time we had together always.
Derpy dogs at dog parks are happy dogs. Just ask Elwood. He knows.
Our girl Reba is checking in with a quick update to let all her fans know she's slowly headed in the right direction. She's regaining her appetite, her bruise is beginning to heal, and her bloodwork at today's check up with the vet shows that she's returned to normal levels. She's also able to resume going on slow, leashed walks.
Reba isn't yet out of the woods yet. She still needs to get her rest and get more bloodwork done for evaluation by speciality vets because the cause of her bleed still hasn't been identified. But, she's doing well, and for now that's enough to make her - and all of us - happy!
Do your dogs look this happy on a walk? We sure hope so, but if not Jake is willing to provide tips in exchange for treats!

We don't normally feature siblings in adoption announcements, but we had to make an exception to celebrate the good news Foxy (left) has to share. From the minute she started her trial adoption this sweet girl formed an immediate bond with her now sister, and we're happy to spread the word that they're sticking together!
Congratulations on your adoption, Foxy! We wish you and your new family the happiest, longest forever together!
Calling all Corgi Fans!
There are just over TWO DAYS left in SECR's first-ever Medical Fund Online Auction, and this is your chance to bid on amazing art, activities, experiences - even travel - all in exchange for supporting the corgis and corgi mixes in rescue!

If you don't want to bid on one of the many items or packages available, you can also donate directly for specific veterinary services.
Thank you for helping us do what we do!
Reba update:
Our sweet girl is checking in to let all her fans know that she’s headed from the hospital to her primary vet today for continued observation. Her blood cell volume has increased a little bit and her platelets, while still low, have increased a little bit. Her body is also beginning to regenerate red blood cells. Reba is feeling a bit better today and is more perky, with her labs showing that at least for now she’s headed in the right direction. But, she is still anemic so our plan is to have continued observation at the vet today while we wait for her test results to confirm the cause of her bleed and make arrangements for her to have a comfortable recovery zone at home.
Once Reba is cleared to leave the vet today she’ll need follow up blood work in a few days and at least two weeks of crate rest. Her foster Mom is currently making all the preparations needed to make sure Reba is as calm and comfortable as she can be for close monitoring at home.
We’ll share more updates when we have them!
Please join us in welcoming our newest addition to the SECR family, Jackson!
Jackson is a senior cardigan boy, and a former breeding dog that comes to us in search of a better life for his “retirement.” He’s a sweet boy in need of a comfortable, relaxing place to call home, and we’re glad we could give him that as well as get him caught up on some much needed vet care. He had routine vaccines last week and thankfully tested negative for heartworm, but is currently battling an ear infection as well as an as yet diagnosed bleed from his urinary tract.
Jackson has not yet been neutered, and at 10 years old the fact that he is unaltered can contribute to a variety of critical health conditions. Bleeding without the presence of bacteria to explain it can often be an indicator of bladder cancer, so Jackson has a follow-up vet appointment later this week for an ultrasound. This boy has had a difficult life and deserves to have many good years as a happy member of a family. We are hoping to discover he is cancer-free so he can be neutered and quickly get on the path to the good life. Either way, we are committed to giving Jackson all the care he needs and pampering him as much as we can in the process.
Stay tuned for updates on Jackson. We’ll share more about him after his appointment later this week. In the meantime, welcome to SECR, Jackson. You’re already so loved!
This is the face of a girl who is thankful for the comfort of a Foster Mom every day, but especially on days when life is really hard and confusing.
Friends, Reba is still hospitalized this afternoon and battling a drop in her blood pressure and more bruising. She’ll be under ongoing observation today to ensure that her blood pressure doesn’t decline further and respond quickly if it does - likely with a blood transfusion. She’ll also have testing done today to try to determine the root cause of her bleeding and bruising as one still hasn’t been identified. One of the tests will be for Von Willebrand Disease, a bleeding disorder caused by having low levels of clotting protein in the blood.
We’ll share more updates about Reba as we have them. We have our collective paws crossed that we’ll get the answers we need to get Reba on the road to good health soon.
Thank you from the bottom of our corgi-loving hearts for the support all of you have given us today as we try to save our Reba. In less than 8 hours we raised what we needed to cover Reba's emergency hospital bills, and we are blown away by your generosity.
Reba is still in critical condition and under observation with elevated blood pressure, but we’re hoping her current vitals are just a reflection of the stress her little body has been through today and not the sign of another battle to come. Our vets will be removing Reba’s bandages later tonight and when they check her blood counts we’re hoping to hear that they are stable, and that she is not continuing to bleed internally. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more, and in the meantime be hoping with everything we've got that this sweet corgi will soon be back to romping in the grass like she was here in this photo.
Thank you for helping us help her. We couldn't do what we do without you, and are so thankful for your support.
Friends, early this afternoon we issued an emergency call for help for our girl Reba and you rose to the challenge! In just a few hours, we raised $2,500 toward the cost of emergency hospitalization for a critical internal bleed. For that, we thank you!
We’re closer to where we need to be, but we’re not there yet! Reba is still in emergency care undergoing strict veterinary observation to monitor her vital signs, blood count, and clotting labs. If things don’t improve – or if they get worse – Reba will have emergency exploratory surgery and we need another $7,500 to make that happen for her.
If you haven't donated yet and can rush an urgent donation today, ANY AMOUNT you give can help us get Reba the critical medical care she needs to have a chance at life. This former breeding dog has waited too long to get her chance at health and happiness, and we can’t fail her now.
PLEASE – Can you help us?
Visit our donation page today to contribute whatever you can:

Update. We spoke with the vet. Reba’s abdomen is tender. There is also free fluid in her abdomen, most likely blood. Right now she is hemodynamically stable but hospitalization is recommended with close monitoring of vital signs, blood count, and clotting labs. She may require exploratory surgery if no improvement seen or her condition worsens. The estimate for the hospitalization is up to $5000; more if she needs surgery. Please help us. We want to save this sweet girl. She deserves to live.
Can you rush a donation today? Any amount you can give helps!

Friends, we have an emergency. Please help! Little Reba had to be rushed to the emergency vet. She was lethargic, not eating, and has bleeding from an unknown source. Her spay was a few days ago so the vets are not sure what is causing this. She may have von Willebrand disease or another bleeding disorder.
Our bank account is way down due to recent veterinary expenses. Please donate if you can! Either click the link at the top of the page, go to our website, or donate to our medical costs in our auction. After her life as a breeding dog so far, she deserves to have a good, long life.
Immediate donations can be made via our PayPal link, here:

It breaks our hearts to share the news today that the Southeast Corgi Rescue has lost another one our own. Our beloved Jora, the namesake of Jora’s Fund, has left us following a long, hard battle with DM. What follows is a tribute from her Mom, who loved sweet Jora so very much:
I would like to share the sad news that we had to say goodbye to Jora after a lengthy battle with degenerative myelopathy (DM). Looking back we began to notice symptoms in the Fall of 2022. Jora had a dedicated family, veterinarian, and physical therapist to support her as her disease progressed and robbed her of her ability to walk. Jora passed peacefully surrounded by her people who loved her very much.
Jora’s time with us was short, too short in my opinion, but every moment of it was filled with love. Jora was a character. She was brave, beautiful, independent, feisty, and just a little bit bossy. She was loud - no sneeze ever went unnoticed and she alerted everyone when she heard them. She was fast but not quite fast enough. She always tried her best to keep up with her greyhound brother whenever he got a case of the zoomies in the backyard. She was a fiercely competitive tug of war player. She was a first class love bug, showering everyone she met with kisses. And in true corgi fashion, she was a food connoisseur and champion wall climbing napper. She put a smile on my face every day and I miss her.
Jora didn’t have to get sick. DM didn’t have to happen to her. I want to honor Jora’s memory by reminding everyone that DM is a devastating but preventable disease when responsible breeding practices are used. If you are considering a corgi puppy from a breeder, please search for a conscientious breeder who completes genetic testing to be sure the puppies do not carry the mutated gene that causes degenerative myelopathy.

If you would like to join us in honoring Jora’s memory and her profound impact on rescue, please consider making a donation to Jora’s Fund to contribute to the care of foster dogs with multiple health issues:

Link may not be a corgi, but he's a cute mix (thought to be part licorice jelly bean) who's been looking for his forever home for a long time. We'd like to do our part to help him and our friends at Mountain Pet Rescue Asheville find the perfect one!
Link is 6 years old and is searching for a low-key lifestyle. He does okay with other dogs that are calm and will leave him be to do his own thing, and would be happy curling up on his human's lap to bond and snuggle. He also likes car rides and would appreciate joining you on the road to go wherever you go.
Link needs a home with a fenced yard (no exceptions) because pottying while on a leashed walk just isn't his jam. He likes having the privacy of his own home, and really, we don't blame him! He's on daily medication for a heart condition but takes it well and it doesn't stop him from living a full, happy life.
If you have room in YOUR heart for sweet Link, please visit the Mountain Pet Rescue's website to submit an application:
https://www.mountainpetrescueavl.org/
You can visit Link's page directly here:

Jake. Elwood. Bonnie. Monty. All four of these recent arrivals in rescue have been getting caught up on routine healthcare, and in the next couple of weeks ALL of them are scheduled for their spay or neuter surgeries. And, at least two - Jake and Elwood - will be getting dentals at the same time.
We will get them what they need. We always do. But the vet bills to cover six surgeries will be in the thousands and we could use your help!
If you haven’t checked out our online auction yet, please consider doing so today. Place a bid on your favorite item or package or donate directly for a medical service. There is something for everyone!

Our boy Solo looks very dapper in his red bandana, but don't let looks deceive you - he also had a tough week this week. He's currently at home and in recovery mode following an intense dental complete with 7 extractions!
The force is always with Solo and he'll be fine, but he and all his buddies in foster care would feel even better knowing they have your support for ongoing medical care.
If you haven't joined our online auction yet, please consider checking it out today and doing what you can to support our medical fund! Whether books, art, local experiences, or travel meet your fancy there is something for everyone. You can even contribute directly for dental procedures like the one Solo had this week!
https://secr.winningbidder.com/event/3449
Our girl Reba had a tough week this week, pushing through not one, not two, but THREE major medical procedures. In a single day! She’s at home recovering from a long overdue spay, a benign re**al polyp removal, and a dental.
Reba is headed in the right direction today, but she’s had a lot of stress due to the strain of three procedures on her little body and her foster Mom has had to be extra diligent to make sure Reba has a handle on the basics of recovery - like eating, taking her meds, and getting up long enough to go outside and potty.
Please consider throwing Reba some support today by engaging in our first-ever Medical Fund Online Auction. You have an opportunity to bid on so many fun items and packages and even contribute directly towards the cost of costly medical procedures like the one Reba had this week. We could use your support!
