🌟 Balancing your hormones isn’t just important if you are diabetic or want to avoid developing type 2 diabetes, it is actually important for a range of bodily functions, including reproductive function.

When you hear people talk about “balancing your blood sugars,” they are referring to the level of glucose in your bloodstream. Glucose is needed in the cells for energy.

⚖️ When blood sugars are imbalanced it throws your s*x hormones and cortisol (the stress hormone) into chaos disrupting the delicate rhythm of your body. The amount of insulin in the blood stream impact a hormone called s*x hormone binding globulin (SHBG), which are “inactive” s*x hormones. The amount of SHBG in the blood stream, impacts the amount of oestrogen and testosterone in circulation, which impacts hormone balance.

🔑 The key to keeping your blood sugars regulated is simple, yet requires discipline:
1️⃣ Choose whole foods: Embrace unprocessed, nutrient-dense foods to keep those sugar levels in check.
2️⃣ Opt for low GI foods: Think slow and steady! Low glycemic index foods release energy gradually, preventing blood sugar spikes.
3️⃣ Eat regularly: Keep your body fuelled with consistent meals and snacks to maintain a steady blood sugar baseline. 2-3 hours between meals is recommended.
4️⃣ Embrace balance: Construct your meals with a mix of proteins, healthy fats, and carbohydrates for a symphony of sustained energy.

🗓️ It is the last day of 2023. You’re probably going to see a whole lot about New Years Resolutions. Personally I’m not a fan of “resolutions.” Why? Because within a couple of weeks most of us have given up on them.

Instead I like to set “intentions” for the things I would like to put focus and energy into. This is because as much as we’d like to do it all, when we do it all, we generally end up doing nothing well, and then end up feeling pretty rubbish.

So if you’ve wanted to set resolutions and haven’t succeeded in the past, I encourage to you do a stocktake using the wheel of life pictured. Rate each area out of 10. Then choose your top 2 and record the specific details of what you want to improve on. Then identify the small actions you will take to address those intentions.

For example: Health might be your top priority. You might specifically want to work on having a regulated nervous system so your action is meditation or breath work daily.

I have used the wheel of life myself and with clients and initially they may have come with an area they wanted to work on and yet after doing the wheel of life exercise, they discover that there are other areas getting in the way of the thing they initially wanted to work on with me. In addressing the other areas they eventually get to their original goal.

This year my top 2 focuses were on Health and Career. I took some pretty serious action in these two areas from studying about health (and then practice what I now preach to you) and investing in a coach for my career and business. And I can safely say that I have flourished (😉) in those two areas, and incidentally improved the others areas. In 2024, I am choosing Career again and Relationships as the two areas I will focus on.
