Mini update no.2 After 24 years it lives!

Project Abarthstard. Cambelt Replacement Part Quattro. This is the motor running with the new OEM Fiat/Mopar cambelt and water pump kit. As you can hear it's world's apart from the noisy gates kit. I'd consider that's win!

Project Abarthstard. Cambelt Replacement Part Duo.... While my fen dwelling Spanner And Hammer Speed Shop partner in crime was combining his dual proclivities for welding and the female form the Cambridge end of the operation was still buggering about with the Abarthstards cambelt. This video clip is of the new cambelt running on the car. The noise is not great as you can hear. I tried re-tensioning the belt both slightly slack and tight but it made no difference to the noise. A quick scan on the interweb revealed that after market cambelts in the TJet engine are prone to this and that a genuine OEM Fiat/Mopar belt kit would fix it. I was skeptical about this as this kit is Gates which normally are equal to or exceed oem specs and quality. A quick call to Ivor Searle in Soham who supplied the belt resulted in the agreement to return the kit for credit which I duly did. The issue appears to be with the tensioner itself. When placing a finger on the tensioner locking nut I could feel an increase in vibration as the noise occurs. I then went through locking the motor back up with the locking tools and stripping the cambelt, tensioner and water pump off the engine again..... More to follow......
