The importance of community resources for breastfeeding This study highlighted important relationships between neighborhood resources and breastfeeding practices. Furthermore, our study found Black and Latiné/Hispanic parents were more likely to reside in lower resourced neighborhoods, highlighting persistent inequities present in the US. This shows that even health behaviors we often associate with individual choice are also connected to the environment within which they are made. Thus, understanding how neighborhood resources relate to individual health behaviors such as breastfeeding requires a complex examination of the multiple systems and contextual factors that shape health.
