Dear Montreat Alumni family,

It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of a much beloved music professor and choral director, Dr. Robert Boer. We are reaching out via Facebook because we know that there are many alumni who we are unable to reach and will not receive this message via email.

While he was teaching at Montreat, Rob was diagnosed with a brain tumor and though he had successful surgery, he ultimately was unable to return to full time teaching. He nevertheless continued to teach and lead choirs both at Montreat College and Christ Community Church Montreat on a limited basis over the following 16 years.

After living eight years beyond his original prognosis, he has reached the end of his journey and passed away this morning, February 2, 2022, in Asheville.

Please pray for his family including wife, Keri, and daughter, Emily, as they grieve and seek comfort.

Kris Bartman, Worship Director at Christ Community Church Montreat and adjunct professor at Montreat College is planning a choral presentation for his memorial. All singers who knew and loved Dr. Boer are invited to be a part of this memorial. Please contact Kris Bartman at the address below if you would like to be contacted as plans become more concrete.
