Hey all! A while back I re-posted this great story from Linda Marie Mirza about a "club night" for people with learning difficulties. My awesome friend Jean Marie Rowan was inspired and has offered to contribute to financial backing should I wish to put together a similar club night here in Chicago!
Well *I* wasn't planning on doing putting this together, since I do not have contacts in the disabilities community nor knowledge of the ins and outs of arranging such a thing. But I do have organizational, planning, and communications skills. I am willing to make it happen if y'all are!! You KNOW I think dancing is the best thing you can do for your mind, body, and soul!
If you are interested in helping out, please watch the video and then contact me. I think the most important thing we need right now is a connection to the disabilities community to see if the idea is even a go, but contact me no matter what your area/skills/interest.

The YMCA of Metro Chicago's Community Schools Initiative has a partnership with Dancing With Class (of May I Have This Dance), where elementary school kids learn ballroom partner dancing. It ends in a big friendly dance competition. Look at these wonderful photos from this year's competition, which took place at the beautiful Chicago Cultural Center. The kids have a blast and, as many of you know, dancing has a multitude of wonderful positive physical, emotional, and social outcomes.
On February 16, the YMCA of Metro Chicago’s Community Schools Initiative proudly celebrated its ongoing partnership with Dancing with Class at the sixth annual YMCA Community Schools Initiative Dance-Off, held at the Chicago Cultural Center.
Parents, family members, friends and community members cheered on youth from eight YMCA Community Schools.
