I play music part-time. Can I still become a SMASH member? YES! SMASH exists to support all types of musicians.

I don't perform my music. Can I still become a SMASH member? YES! SMASH exists to support all types of musicians.

Is SMASH health insurance? No. SMASH is a service specifically for musicians; we are not health insurance. We connect you to certain medical services based on your needs so you can protect your health. You can still access and benefit from all our services with or without health insurance.

How do I show that my income has changed in the last couple of months? With so much uncertainty as a musician, we ask that you project your best guess on anticipated earnings. Our income guidelines are that SMASH members make at or below the King County median income.

I live outside Seattle, can I become a SMASH member? YES! We support musicians in King, Pierce, Snohomish, Mason, and Thurston counties.

What do I need to bring? To get signed up, you will need to know what your annual income is but we do not require income verification documents at this time. Otherwise, you are good to go!

What is the eligibility criteria? SMASH serves all types of musicians including, vocalists, instrumentalists, composters, music teachers, DJ's that create original music, and likely some type not listed here, that live in King, Snohomish, Pierce, Mason, Kitsap, or Thurston counties who perform, record, teach, or compose music and earn income at or under SMASH’s income guidelines.

A new venue I'm working with asked about my process. I overshared and realized that oversharing with y'all too might be helpful to some of you so... This is my promotion process in a nutshell:

I create poster art and a promo video (featuring the poster art). Then I schedule organic social media posts using the art I've created. These posts appear on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Threads, YouTube and TikTok. I also list the event on our event calendars which get aggregated across streaming services. I write a press release the text of which is used in creating a Facebook event page and listing on Do206, Patch, and other relevant event calendars. I encourage venues to send the press release to their press contacts. Then I run targeted PPC ads (featuring the art) on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. These ads are focused by location to target only people near the venue.

Even still, that doesn't guarantee that people show up. Our most successful shows have all been collaborations with businesses that put the same level of effort into promoting that I do. I know how to promote a band but only you know your customers.
