All BPS students will begin the school year learning remotely on Monday, September 21, followed by a phase-in of the hybrid model.
We are asking for families to indicate their learning model preferences in the form sent via email Wednesday, and again a short time ago. If you didn’t receive a form, we will start making direct phone calls to families, with multilingual support, on Monday. We will then update your contact information to ensure you receive district communications this school year in your preferred language.
For more information on the learning models, visit bostonpublicschools.org/reopening.
We want to hear from BPS community members as our plans develop for the fall. Your feedback is critical and continues to guide our many important decisions.
The next virtual fall reopening meeting for the general BPS community is this Saturday, Aug. 8 at 10am. Plus TONIGHT separate meetings for our English Learner families for Mandarin speakers and Spanish speakers. Details: ow.ly/k20D30r341t

Joseph Lee K8 School We are all apart but facing these challenges together!
During this difficult time of school closure, it is important for BPS to hear from our families about what we can do to support their needs.
We're asking families to complete a short survey to let us know what they may need. On Friday, families were sent an email with a unique link to a survey for each student enrolled in BPS. Families that did not receive the survey in their email, take the survey here (translated in 9 languages): bit.ly/2Xe5hcE

Keep students in a routine as much as possible - here is a sample schedule for the day! Keep up with the e-learning assignments so your student stays engaged.
Dear JLS Families,
The Joseph Lee K8 school is CLOSED effective Tuesday March 17, 2020 through April 24,
2020.
This means there are no students on campus, no activities will take place in the building, and no teaching staff will be reporting to the office.
However, we will be supporting at home learning with paper and computer-based lessons and activities. While this decision was made with the health, safety and well-being of our students, families and staff at the forefront, we also understand that it will have a significant impact on your lives.
Therefore, we want to do everything we can to support
you and your family during this unprecedented time period.
BeginningTuesday March 17, 2020 daily web-based materials will be available for students on Google Classroom. Many of our students already use google classroom but for some this may be a new process. This means that students will receive daily lessons, assignments, and videos from
their teachers. In addition, teachers will be holding class discussions and individual help time through Google Classroom.
Your student’s Google Classroom can be accessed at
classroom.google.com using their BPS email and password.
Additionally, more learning apps can be found in Clever, a “portal” with apps used by your student’s school or classroom teacher(s). Your student’s Clever portal can be accessed at
www.bostonpublicschools.org/backpack using their BPS email and password.
As always, the most important piece of learning for students is independent reading for 30 - 90
minutes per day, every day. Remember, “Reading is Thinking.” Homeroom teachers will be sharing all relevant usernames and passwords for your student to access the applications available in the BPS Clever Backpack, as well as recommendations on books to read based on your student’s reading level.
Social Emotional Support -
Be mindful that children sense our emotions and need adults to establish a sense of calm. Do something together as a family outside such as taking a walk or playing a game. Use
age-appropriate language and talk with your children about the day out of school as a time for the building to be cleaned and ready for their return.
The best way to contact the school during this time is to email principal Kim Crowley at
[email protected].
Contact the OIIT Help Desk by email, phone, or G chat if you have questions or concerns about
continued learning:
