Riverside Artists Group exhibition Borders, themed around collage, opens Sunday at the Polish Social & Cultural Centre at Ravenscourt Park, Hammersmith. Pix show Astrite Vula and exhibition curator John Potter prepping the show. 30+ members participating in RAG’s annual show. Work coming looks amazing! All welcome.
Bushy Park sketches, various media including rain from time to time. Charcoal and patient dogs included.
Sunday sketches with very blue sky reflected in ponds. Very literal but the blue was brilliant
October sketches on daily dog walks, very quick. Sometimes I set timer for 3 mins. Or sometimes dogs lose patience.
Recent sketches in Bushy Park, SW London on dog walk - the last a collage from another.
Mathilda’s Journey - Mathilda's memory is blocked until a wise man gives her a pebble from the top of the mountain.
Storytelling again with Belinda McKenna Bicknell . via Zoom this morning. Photos 2 & 3 show initial inspiration for Mathilda, a waterfall, bench, moss, string, wise man, storm monster and mountain - some of which gradually disappear under the drawing and developing story. Charcoal, graphite & pastel on paper
Collage theme for next Riverside Artists Group show (at POSK London in November) is going to my head. Adding bits of paper and tearing up sketches that don’t work. Fun, quick, and allowing something new to emerge.
Yesterday at the Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden Gallery in Surrey with fellow artists and picnic. Sketching amidst stunning work by other artists.
Uffa & the Imagines: Spontaneous art & storytelling with Belinda McKenna-Bicknell after some months. Dusk is a dangerous time to test the effects of the Imagines’ touch. Like Uffa you might live to regret it?’ Mixed media on paper c 76x57cm
Sketching yesterday in Sussex. Quick drawing post-sarnie and others on the hoof. And tea at last. I really was on the hoof as car only covered for a couple of hours. But great afternoon on a perfect summer’s day.
A drawing I did a few weeks ago when painting wasn’t working. I thought I would use it for collage but keeping it for now. 76x57cm, mixed media on paper.
Further Sussex sketches.
Sussex day out on Friday. Drawing as I walk - bit hampered by choice of materials and occasional gusts. Needs paring down.
More or less last of Northumberland sketches, plus a couple@that were a few lines which I’ve started squiggling on in the studio to loosen up before canvas work.
Quick sketches in the Borders in May
Northumberland sketches. First one experimenting with walnut ink.
More Borders drawings, across the dps. It is wonderful to walk and draw at the same time but can get tricky!
Some recent sketches from Northumberland week
Today is my day in the Riverside Artists Group ‘Mayday Mayday’ Instagram show - 24 of us are showing an image daily relating to the theme. Rubies, freckles and fairy favours, oil on canvas, 120x110cm. What will next spring bring?

Last of the traveller’s new collages.
The first I did at midnight at Mangere terminal, Auckland. The second is the ‘collaged’ carpet at Changi.
Sorting out results of mark-making workshop with Sally Cole at Kumeu Arts Centre in March. Cutting up parts I want to keep, I have been distracted by all the other snippets to collage new drawings.
Manuka on the farm at Muriwai, West Auckland.
Wonderful afternoon with Madelaine Abey-Koch in her Muriwai studio.
Recent Canna and Scots pine clump at Albany, Auckland
Night drawings - stars largely occluded by cloud. Happy Easter from the Southern Hemisphere.
Fill moon on other side of the house last night - Sagittarius and Corona Australis from my bedroom window( I think!)
North of Auckland bush sketches, amidst Olivia Webb’s Miserere Mei sound installation at sculpture trail last week.
Inspirational Saturday mark-making workshop with visiting British Sally Cole at the Kumeu Arts Centre
Most enjoyable playing with intention.
Afternoon sketching on the West Coast of Auckland. … and 3am jet-lag view into a starry night above the trees.
The romance of names - Erzurum, Arat, Khvoy, Tabriz, much under cloud from London to Singapore on 1st leg to NZ today, inc Black Sea which I had to imagine, and by the Caspian. How to describe spectacular snow and ice over mountains and desert.
Days out of London with sketchbook are impacting on my work enormously. Herewith my latest - oil on canvas, 120 x 140cm, detail and whole piece. Slow burn - I think I started this one 18 months ago.
Gorgeous day yesterday on South Downs. Bit later than usual so really drawing on the hoof apart feom 5 min sandwich/sketch break.
Sussex Downs for gorgeous day. Later start than usual so really drawing on the hoof save 5 mins for 1st sketch with sandwich!
Further Sussex snapshot sketches. They are feeding my painting.
Sussex adventures - fast drawing as I walk. Quite magical in winter, even with flat grey air.
