On this fine let me introduce my girl and protagonist, Kelynn, aka Kel, aka Sanders. Her full name means undiluted which is mirrored in how she presents her strength to the world and how she longs for a full, potent life. She’s guarded but bold, and I can’t wait for you all to meet her in the pages to come.

Paperback Writer: Putting the Story in My Head on Paper — Nat Bickel 22/04/2024

I shared last week that I'm releasing a Young Adult Novel this summer. Below is a blog post for those interested in learning where this story came from and a bit about my writing process!

Paperback Writer: Putting the Story in My Head on Paper — Nat Bickel “Dear Sir or Madam, will you read my book? It took me years to write, will you take a look?” Listening to the Beatles’ “ Paperback Writer ,” I can’t help but find resemblance in my own journey as a writer. I’ve been keeping it under wraps until it was the best it could be, BUT I wrote ...

When Dreams Feel Normative — Nat Bickel 24/01/2023

When Dreams Feel Normative:
"When that chorus hit, it was incredibly smooth, almost like someone singing in the fog by a lake. The bass mixed with the eerie vocals just did something unexplainable to me."

When Dreams Feel Normative — Nat Bickel Music videos from my early high school years will be forever ingrained in my memory bank. Something about the larger than life, dramatic visuals made me hit replay again and again, one of which included an alternative band. When that chorus hit, it was incredibly smooth, almost like someone singing

Like a Million Whispers — Nat Bickel 26/10/2022

"Its tall stalks are all I can see, no land beyond them, they shield me. It’s quiet in still time, the only noise a nearby horse flehming alongside my exhales of sighs."

Like a Million Whispers — Nat Bickel I step around the bend, the wood planks welcoming my weight.  The corn, now my horizon and unfamiliar friend. Its tall stalks are all I can see, no land beyond them, they shield me.  It’s quiet in still time, the only noise a nearby horse flehming alongside my exhales of sighs.

The Comforting Nudge of Shifting Seasons — Nat Bickel 06/10/2022

"It’s a surprising sensation that could bring me to tears if I let it. Physical touch is my love language, and when it feels like God, himself, has gently ran his fingers through my hair, I feel like a child being nurtured, loved, and seen."

The Comforting Nudge of Shifting Seasons — Nat Bickel I cross one leg over the other to keep warm, although it’s not cold outside. The subtle, but ever-present, chill brushes up against me just enough to create bumps on my arm pushing back against it. My body tries to protect me from the crisp nature of the wind while I internally long for it.

Buoyancy — Nat Bickel 23/08/2022

Buoyancy:
"The vast ocean ahead enticed me as glimpses of colorful houses dotting the shore blended together. I felt the unexpected thrill of the ride, a smile plastered across my face. As the rest of the passengers held on alongside me, their grips seemed lighter compared to my now white knuckles, my innate need for solid ground resurfacing."

Buoyancy — Nat Bickel The heat from the sun spawned a state of much needed restoration as I lay outstretched with my arms extending above my head and my toes pointed. I eased into the slack of the beach chair, my right leg straightening past the point of comfort. An array of knee surgeries had me overly aware of its posi

My Inner Compass: A Las Vegas Travel Blog — Nat Bickel 03/05/2022

When I came home from Vegas, I had recurring nightmares that I was still stuck in the airport. I had to write about my experience for them to go away. So, I wrote about the ENTIRE solo travel experience from start to finish.

My Inner Compass: A Las Vegas Travel Blog — Nat Bickel I saw the hostess eyeing me as I stood near the back of the line. “Are you alone, ma’am?” The question was one I’d been answering safely over the past 24 hours, and I hesitated for a brief second. Instead of telling a small tale of how my husband was still in the hotel room or how I was goin...

Mending the World's Broken Bones - A Quarantine Reflection — Nat Bickel 21/03/2022

We just hit the 2 year mark of being sent home from work at the onset of the pandemic. Here’s a little something I wrote back then about the transformation that happened for me.

Mending the World's Broken Bones - A Quarantine Reflection
“The day she was furloughed was one of the weirdest days. One where she felt defeated, unsure, and undervalued. But then, she found something unexpected, something she didn't realize she'd lost - herself.”

Mending the World's Broken Bones - A Quarantine Reflection — Nat Bickel The day she was furloughed was one of the weirdest days. One where she felt defeated, unsure, and undervalued. But then, she found something unexpected, something she didn't realize she'd lost - herself. God was unearthing things she didn’t realize she’d buried. Her hope had been going astray fo...
