Excerpt from The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano.

Olaudah Equiano was an enslaved man who bought his freedom. He was born in modern day Nigeria and sold into slavery at the age of 11. In his autobiography, The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano: Or Gustavus Vassa, The African, Written By Himself, he describes his early life in Africa. Through his testimony we are afforded a glimpse into the life of an African before he is captured, traded amongst other tribes, and ultimately sold into slavery. Among the very surprising details he gives about the customs and traditions of his tribe (that you will have to read for yourself) he gives us insight on his name. Equiano writes,

“ I was named Olaudah, which, in our language, signifies vicissitude or fortune also, one favoured, and having a loud voice and well spoken.”

This, among other respects, is why I chose to name my single after him.

Hey y’all! This is a little hard to do because my family and I have experienced a lot let down in the past with asking for help but my wife texted me this morning saying that the Lord put it on her heart to share. I trust her because she was the most effected in the past so to see her have hope that God will provide no matter what people say is my encouragement. Y’all our car is trippin really bad and has a lot of recalls. We are a family of 4 with little to no support so we decided to open ourselves up to the internet and ask for help. I know this can be a cruel place even with Christians but we know God is bigger than gossip, mocking and whatever else people choose to do with information like this. We are asking for help to pay off our car to clear debt so that we can purchase a new one for me to get back & forward to work & for my family to move around. We know that not everyone can help financially so we are asking for prayer as well. Whatever you can do will be enough. We appreciate y’all and we are hopeful that God will provide what we need.
