May 7, 2023 - We hosted 100 volunteers at our Hillmount Valley Site. Due to rain last week, we held this event to finish off some of the remaining work at this planting site. We were able to finish planting 180 trees and shrubs and mulched hundreds of trees from our April 30th event.
On April 30th, we hosted our annual Earth Week Planting at Hillmount Park & Valley. Hillmount Valley is owned by the City of Markham and sits within the Rouge River valleylands. It is a former golf course that is now being re-naturalized into wetlands and forest ecosystems for wildlife. About 900 volunteers came out to help us plant 3,200 trees and shrubs. Thank you all!
This event could not have been possible without the financial assistance of our corporate and government supporters. We would like to extend our thanks to: Black & McDonald Limited, City of Markham, York Region (The Regional Municipality of York), TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, Alectra, Do Good Paper Co., Bass Pro Shops & Cabela's, Markham Elite Lions Club, Walmart and Pizza Nova.
April 29th was site set-up day at Hillmount Park & Valley. About 65 volunteers came out to move 3200 plants into the field and to set up our 10 plantings stations with wheelbarrows, buckets and tree guards.
About 20 of the volunteers also attended our hands-on planting coach training, led by Raimund. Planting Coaches lead small groups of planters at all of our events.
Cheers to members of our organizing committee for being out in the rain and mud this past weekend to put up deer fences at Hillmount Park (the site of our upcoming planting). The 180 m of fencing will protect our newly planted trees by keeping deer away.
Celebrate Earth Month with the City of Markham on Saturday, April 22. There will be lots of fun and educational activities for the family. Be sure to come visit our booth!

Our Story
Founded in 1989, 10,000 Trees has since helped to plant over 186,000 trees and shrubs, and restored over 185 acres of fragile watershed land. We have accomplished this by organizing an annual planting event that is supported by a growing community.
Our community consists of families within and outside the GTA, businesses, school groups, community groups, and much more. They contribute not only to the betterment of our local environment but also to the overall spirit and community building that everyone enjoys so much.
The support of volunteers is crucial, but so is the financial and in-kind contributions made by sponsors and donors. This support helps to acquire nursing stock, replenish planting supplies, as well as rent or buy the tools and equipment that are needed to carry out habitat restoration projects. Please consider making a donation, which you can do by clicking the "Donate" button on our page or by going directly to our website at www.10000trees.com.
