Upasuaji International is a surgical education nonprofit that aims to improve the standard and access to surgical care in East Africa and beyond.
We believe that barriers that prevent access to surgery and the barriers that prevent surgeons from offering needed surgery can be removed by rethinking the way is done.
That's why we:
• Focus on training and equipping local surgeons, nurses, and technicians with the skills and tools they need to perform life-saving procedures.
• Encourage and support research.
• Mentor students and surgical trainees.
• Support local surgical associations
• Support and advocate for children with complex surgical needs

Michael is recovering from pneumonia and is expected to be discharged home. I have asked the family to contact the Heart Institute in Kampala and make arrangements for admission and surgery believing that we will get the money for his surgery.
That said, we are still a LONG WAY off. We have raised just under $1000.
It would be good if Michael could be admitted no later than next week, and that is our goal.

The lockdown in continues. Things have improved slightly with people not being home but continues to devastate the country. When the lockdown was implemented all of Sera's children who were at school were sent home, at least one came home sick and much of the home ended up sick with very large medical bills. Thankfully, except for some still being unable to smell, everyone is recovering and Sera hasn't been sick. We continue to raise money via the or directly through UA. Link is in bio.
