This fabulous necklace is a 1950s Haskell necklace of baroque pearls with gilt metal leaves and a distinctive flower-head catch found in many Haskell necklaces.

The late, great Bette Davis in 1938 wearing what looks like a parure of earrings, a ring and a bracelet. I wish I could get a closer look but the image is too blurry to enlarge.

I would love to travel back in time to 1939 to visit Sam Kramer’s jewellery shop in New York. He advertised it as ‘Fantastic Jewelry for People Who Are Slightly Mad’. Here’s one of his designs - an abstract metal choker and brooch. It was inspired by surrealist artist Tanguy in the mid 1950s.
