Houston Area Region Odyssey
Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem-solving competition for students of all ages. See our Texas chapter at www.txodyssey.org
Teams of students select a problem, create a solution, then present their solution in a competition against other teams in the same problem and division.
IMPORTANT Reminder for Problem 3 Classics Teams about Historic Figures!
DO NOT use the Clarification process to get historic figure approval. Go to Members Area, sign in, and follow process for approval.
Problem 3 List of Allowed Lesser Known Historic Figures is posted in the Members Area! You may also log in to the Member Area to request approval for a historical figure that is not yet on the list.
If you wish to submit a name for consideration to be added to the list you may do so using the following criteria: The person must have been a real documented person. The person must not have been alive on or after January 1, 1920. You may only submit one person for consideration at a time. Your team is limited to three submissions. If it is approved, the name becomes public.
Submit for historical figure approval by December 15th.
More information coming after our Virtual Awards Ceremony on April 10th!
UPDATE: Due to the recent and widespread power loss across Texas, we have extended the pre-order deadline by one week, to February 28th!
Hello all! This year's shirt design is BernOMER on the front and Among Us on the back. Our t-shirts are available for pre-order online. The deadline for pre-orders is February 21, and sadly if we do not meet our minimum required quantity, we will not be able to place the shirt order this year - so no teams will be able to get shirts. :( The proceeds from shirt sales also help keep our tournament fees low. Please help our teams and yourselves by snatching up some of these super cool shirts! While you're shopping, feel free to check out our sales of surplus 2020 pins as well!

Hey OMers!
Spontaneous practice problems are available in the Team Members Area! There are four practice problems to help your team experience Spontaneous in an online format. These practice problems are included with your membership.
Additionally, a Spontaneous Practice Package is available for purchase in the Odyssey Shop Support Materials. This package includes 10 practice problems that will provide examples of the different formats your team might encounter in an online competition. These provide additional opportunities to experience the online spontaneous competition to better prepare you for the actual competition.

HARO Teams,
Irrespective of previous advancement (or not) to the TX State tournament, ALL regional teams are invited to participate, if they wish, at the Virtual World Finals level.
Rules and Registration for Odyssey of the Mind's Virtual World Finals 2020 can now be found at www.odysseyofthemind.com/virtual-wf-home
As a reminder, teams have six weeks to assemble their submissions so we urge you all to remain patient and responsible by continuing to follow your local public health directives, until such time as gatherings are once again deemed safe.
Good luck to everyone! We can't wait to see your solutions!
See how Odyssey of the Mind responds to the giant spontaneous problem of COVID-19 by planning to run a virtual World Finals tournament for all teams. What does this mean to the Texas teams? We will assess and share details after April 1st.
Safety of our Odyssey Family is the highest concern for the Odyssey of the Mind - Texas Association, so with heavy heart we announce that the Texas State tournament will not be held on Apr 4th. We will be assessing options over the next month, and we will keep you updated. In the meantime, we strongly suggest that you do not discard your solutions!
We ask for your patience in waiting for any announcement of future plans. We believe we need to take some time to see where this situation takes us over the next month (or months).
Congratulations to each and every team that presented their long term solution today! We're so proud of all the hard work and creativity we saw today, from all teams not just teams that advanced.
Raw long-term scores and spontaneous scores will be posted on txodyssey.org/ within the next 24-48 hours.
