Pop Up Shop for Alport UK - Shetland

Hi all,

Just to say, I will be donating the goods not sold onto further great causes.

We’ve donated a lot of the goods to the clothes swap which is raising money for the Archie foundation. On at sound hall on December 3rd - 11am - 3pm.

I will also be putting goods to the British Red Cross in Lerwick and can’t thank them enough for their help with the pop-up shop.

I cannot thank you all enough for the support! The total raised between the shop and online donations is £2500!! Completely overwhelmed!
A huge thank you to my family and friends, all the volunteers and those who donated! Thank you to Staney Hill Hall for the use of their lovely venue and for their support with spreading awareness! Due to it being the shops last 2 hours open, everything will be £1 or less (except for a couple of bigger items which can be viewed at the front door). Shop closes at 4.30pm today at Staney Hill Hall. Once it’s gone, it’s gone!

Just a sneak peak of some of the items on offer! Lots of lovely clothes (including party clothes on the run up to Christmas), shoes, toys, iPhone 11 and kindle fire have also been kindly donated as well as many other items! Looking forward to opening at 11am tomorrow and just a reminder it’s cash only. Thank you so much 💜

Thank you again to everyone for their kind donations of items so far! It’s really appreciated. For anyone wishing to donate items further, if these could be arranged to be dropped off or collected by this Wednesday (8th November) then that would be really appreciated.

Also have a few people asking what will happen with any items left and these will be donated forward to other charities so they can hopefully benefit too.

Thought I'd just share a bit more information about what Alport's Syndrome is and Alport UK for those who are interested.

Alport Syndrome is a rare inherited disease that can cause kidney failure, deafness and eye abnormalities. It can impact a large number of people in a family. It is the second most common form of inherited kidney disease.

After starting with symptoms as a toddler - it was a long journey and many tests which led me to being diagnosed at 16. There was a fault in my COL4A5 gene which had arisen out the blue so thankfully none of my family have it - I do always just like to be the awkward one!
However, I did feel very isolated as I didn't know anyone else diagnosed with it. I kept this hidden for many years, only telling a few friends/family about it. It wasn't until Covid-19 hit, I started doing more research into Alport's and becoming more open about it. I found Alport UK through Facebook and the rest is history! I was able to connect with other individuals across the world who are affected by Alport's. I've been to meet-ups in Cardiff and London and it was amazing to be given the opportunity to feel connected and understood. Alport UK also have the "Don't Wait Fund" which was set up by Sam Clarke to inspire individuals affected by Alport's to experience a new challenge - such as a new exercise, sport or activity. It was through this fund that I was able to get my paddleboard. This has been a huge benefit for my physical and mental health.

Alport UK has done so much to support me so I want to give back so they can continue to support others and raise awareness. This is what has led me to do this pop-up shop to try thank them for everything they've done and continue to do for me and others.

I know it's not a well-known syndrome so I'm always happy to answer any questions anyone has.

Hi everyone! I'm organising a pop-up charity shop to raise money for a charity called Alport UK. The shop will be held at Staney Hill Hall in Lerwick.
