Nice early Pine Southern Pie Safe. It appears to have started out with a barn red wash. Great piece
Nice Carroll County pie safe, 1840's 1850's. Pine three board back original milk paint inside. Peg and square nail construction. The exterior was originally a barn red wash. The exterior paint was done some time ago. The current colors really work, I like the look. Tapered legs, no alterations other than the exterior color. It measures 47" tall and 40" wide. A nice Georgia Pie Safe.
Nice little chest I picked today. Measures 20"tall 21" wide and 12.5" deep. Original hinges, pulls, and finish. A nice little early 1800's chest. It features a locking compartment, the lid lifts up.
Nice ring jug I picked up today.
Nice piece I picked today.
Today I acquired these incredible Potraits with provenance and lineage to South Carolina's John C. Calhoun. The Portraits are of Joseph Calhoun and his Wife Sarah Ann Cross Calhoun. Joseph was born in Abbeville County South Carolina. His father and the Father of John C. Calhoun were Brothers. Working with the Abbeville Historical society I've been able to link Joseph and John C. Calhoun as first cousins. The Portraits are large and in their original frames. The canvas measures 30"x 36" with a 6" frame width. They were painted from life and absolutely beautiful.
Our Story
This site was created to feature Southern Primitive Furniture to collectors. As a Resident of the Upstate of South Carolina I try and focus on Furniture of the Piedmont areas of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. My love is with Furniture made prior to the Civil War, but I've found Pieces from the 1870's that still retain a great deal of quality craftsmanship that is highly desired and sought after. All pieces I offer for sale are hand picked by me and come with provenance as to the State and Region they were made. In some cases I can even offer provenance such as the Family that originally owned the Piece. In today’s market painted furniture seems to be the trend, but I can assure you as with all trends they will end as fast as they came into fashion, and you will see these investments in your local thrift stores at rock bottom prices.. Primitive Furniture that retains much of it's original paint is highly sought after by collectors and I assure you it's value will maintain and even increase as these pieces become even more difficult to find. As a picker I look for Pieces that were bench made, hand planed, pegged, and made by true craftsman. My love of this furniture comes from the fact that these pieces were utilitarian, they were made to be used and each piece had a purpose in their daily lives. Most of what I deal in was made right on the Farm or Plantation with wood cut and fashioned by either a Traveling Craftsman or Slaves. I've found the Craftsmanship of Slave made Pieces of Furniture to be absolutely beautiful and very well constructed and highly prized by Collectors. Remember, Keep Southern Culture alive by buying a Piece of Southern made Antique Furniture.
