Okay dear friends from the real life world, here's another sporadic Facebook post!
After much deliberation on the fate of social media and the ever-changing algorithms that choose who gets to see my posts and when, I've decided to attempt posting my daily comic strip The Poet over on Substack.
You can sign up to follow the comic for free with just your email and it'll be delivered straight to your inbox (or the Substack app if you have it) every morning. No need to log into anything or remember to hunt it down or wonder why you aren't seeing it ever again!
It's the best way I could think of to deliver The Poet directly to anyone who wants it - and I'm looking at it as the next best thing to reading it in the local papers of days past. It's also nice for me, in that you can choose to pay (only if you want - $5/month or $30 for a year - the lowest monthly rate I could select and the yearly rate is the same as buying one of the annual book collections). Why pay for what is also free? I've been drawing The Poet every day for over four years, and it is a lot of work. I also publish (which means on top of writing and drawing every strip I also design, layout, edit, promote, publicize, etc) the books myself. I don't have any assistants, or a PR team, or publicist, or media empire to back what I make. I do it because I am insane. Kidding, because I love it. I truly truly love making these comics. And I hope to continue to make these comics without publishers or any of those other well-meaning interlopers for as long as I possibly can. These are one-hundred-percent artisan made-by-a-single-person-who-is-a-real-life-human-being comics made just for you!
SO, if you've found that any of my comics have brought any value to your life over the past two decades, and in particular the past four years via The Poet (which is my favorite thing I've ever made), I do ask that you at least consider chipping in for a paid subscription if your circumstances allow it. But by all means sign up for free too because... it's free!
The point is, PLEASE SUBSCRIBE to my new account, and tell everyone you know who might be interested! Many thanks for taking the time to read this far. Hope to see ya in the comments section of my Substack!
