David J. Kollar, age 80, of Fultonville, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at the Hudson Park Rehab and Nursing Center, in Albany, NY.
Born on February 7, 1943, in Gloversville, NY, he was the son of the late Gabriel and Anne (Simek) Kollar.
During his young adult hood, Dave loved spending time at his parents' camp on the Great Sacandaga Lake, where he often boated and waterskied. An avid fisherman, he fly-fished throughout the Adirondacks. Many Saturday mornings you would often find him golfing with his father on local golf courses. Puttering in his workshop was another favorite pastime, and over the years he made small furniture items and even wooden toys for his children.
Dave loved animals and learned how to raise and train horses. He would also rescue the occasional injured bird from the yard and provide care until they were able to return to the yard.
One of Dave's proudest accomplishments was becoming a New York State Licensed Master Falconer. He first got his license in 1996 and spent almost 30 years trapping, training, and hunting with red-tailed hawks. Many neighbors called him the Bird Man of Glen. Dave's focus was always on letting the hawk choose when it was ready to leave his care. He developed a unique relationship with each bird, having Chip for 6 years and Briar for nearly 25 years.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Kollar who he married in 1966; son, Martin Kollar (Jessica); daughter, Kelly Day (Andy); brother, Gabriel Kollar; sister, Barbara Romano; grandchildren, Jenna, Noah; great grandchildren, Jackson, Graham; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, David is predeceased by his grandson, Joshua.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2023 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher Street, Johnstown, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in David's memory may be made to Avian Experience, 159 Allen Road, St. Johnsville, NY, 13452 or PayPal, https://www.paypal.me/miraclethegoat or Venmo, https://venmo.com/miracle-the-goat

Dear Friends of the 1961 graduating class of JHS. I recently learned that Larry LaRowe, one of our former classmates, had been admitted to the hospital due to his condition related to 4th stage bone cancer. Yesterday, Larry’s caregiver called me to report that he had passed away. She has been told by members of Larry’s family that a memorial service (military-related) will be held in the Saratoga/Albany area soon. Once I’m able to obtain his obituary with additional information, I’ll post it on FB.
May Larry finally rest in peace.
Sincerely, Linda Kuehnel Gleckel
