President Kiir confirms Somali Membership into East African Community
JUBA, 15 December 2023 (PPU)----President Salva Kiir Mayardit who is also the Chair of the East African Community has confirmed Somali's admission into the bloc.
The event that took place in Kampala also saw Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mahamud sign the instrument of accession and witnessed by Uganda's President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
President Kiir stressed the importance of peace and stability in the region to achieve sustainable development.
For his part, the President of the Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said that the integration will bring the country the economic and commercial future of the East African countries to enhance trade in the region.
The signing of the instrument of accession for the Federal Republic of Somalia is a significant step towards strengthening regional cooperation.
