F***y Brennan’s innovative approach to painting is immediately clear in the small size of her work, which never exceeds a few inches square. These tiny pictures are filled with humor and, in meticulous detail, present playful images of a mythical world that existed only in her imagination.
As an American student in Paris, F***y was an independent soul. “At the Atelier Art et Jeunesse,” she says, “they were always trying to get me to fill the entire page of drawing paper. I only wanted to make very, very small pictures.”

The Divine Comedy 🎭
In the early 1950s, in celebration of the 700th birthday of the great Italian poet Dante Alighieri, the Italian government commissioned the Surrealist master Salvador Dalí to create 100 illustrations for a commemorative edition of The Divine Comedy. Dalí’s hyper realistic, bizarre, and nightmarish imagery seemed like the perfect pairing to Dante’s visions of Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise, yet public outcry against the commissioning of a Spanish artist to accompany the work of an Italian cultural hero forced the Italian government to revoke its support for the project.
Dalí worked with a French publisher to have 100 wood engravings (one for each of The Divine Comedy’s verses) made after his own watercolors, which were completed and published in 1963. All of which are available to purchase in our galleries and online.

Anyone who knows Erté knows that he favorited women in fashion as his subjects in most of his pieces. Here is a rare Harper’s Bazaar cover where a man is depicted in his art rather than the usual female physique.

‘s influence for art derives from his mother, who studied needlepoint and designed textiles. Murakami knew he wanted to be an artist when he grew up, and had always taken a large interest in animation and comics.
In 2011, Takashi Murakami debuted new paintings that were a tribute to Yves Klein, the late French artist who is considered a leading proponent of Nouveau réalisme and developer of the famous International Klein Blue (IKB) 🌸

Spot the differences? ☁️
It is obvious from Philippe Bertho’s artwork that he fools much more than the eye…he draws one in by the heart and also quite frequently by the funny bone. Despite his ability to perfectly render reproductions of masterworks, Bertho was drawn to the world of fantasy and illusion. New originals and prints like these are now available at Martin Lawrence Galleries!

Based on the 1924 set design for Les Idoles at the Théâtre Sarah Bernhardt, Paris. It was for the character of the mother in this play that the costume was created. Sarah Bernhardt is generally accepted as the finest actress of the late 19th century. In 1898, she bought the Théâtre des Nations, which she renamed the Théâtre Sarah Bernhardt.
