I keep seeing political posts asking what the government is going to do for Black people or what politician has a Black agenda. Can someone tell me what the white agenda is? What is the Asian agenda? What is the Latino agenda? Furthermore, does anyone asking this question realize that this position puts us in a place of subservience? Black people are going to remain and complain about where we are until the government gives to or saves us?

Here is a suggestion. Instead of waiting on politicians to provide an agenda for us, that the majority will complain is not enough, why don't we come up with our own agenda. What if we controlled the things over which we have 100% control.

1. Get married and stop having children out of wedlock. Why? Less than 10% of black married couples experience poverty. Single Black mothers experience poverty at 39%.

2. Buy a home and invest in your employer provided 401k. Most Americans who have a net worth of over a million dollars have it from the equity in their home and the balance in their 401k.

3. Graduate high school. In Illinois only 77% of Black children graduate from high school. Asians graduate at a rate of 94.2%

4. Acquire the skills for which employers are willing to pay. A warehouse worker at Amazon shouldn't complain that they only make $15.00 per hour when Amazon has 1000s of jobs that pay over $100k. Get the skills for that job that pays you what you want to earn.

5. Get your credit score above 720. Over half of Black people have credit scores of 620 and below. A low credit score will either have you paying much more money in interest, or you won't get that for which you are applying. That includes credit cards, cars, apartments, homes, and in some cases employment.

Let's decide as Black Americans to achieve this list in the next 10 years. When we accomplish this list for 75% of Black America, our need for government assistance and their "agenda" will be greatly diminished.
